I'm writing a paper for my Pop Culture in Communism class. I decided I wanted to do how music influenced the wall falling after watching something about Hasslehoff's performance at the wall. After a bit of research I read about quite a few people who performed. I'm kinda just wondering how much the concerts influenced that "peaceful falling" of the Berlin Wall and end to the Cold War in general.

I've heard nuggets of his work, but I would like to understand more. Is there any place where I should start? Books maybe?

In the 1380s, for instance, could Gian Galeazzo Visconti or Richard II of England visit a local brothel without causing a scandal? Was such business too common for hereditary rulers?

English, Welsh, Scottish, I guess this sort of applies to some Irish?

Because as far as I can tell the European commanders went through exactly what the American ones did in the Civil War, just faster. They quickly discovered that the war would not be short and have massive casualties on both sides along with the tactics of trench warfare towards the end of the Civil War seem like an obvious must include in preparing for a modern war.

I'm also wondering if they didn't study Longstreet's/Lee's general policy of defense warfare being superior? It seems like Europe could have avoided at least some casualties if their leaders had learned the lessons of the Civil War and I'm curious if any of them tried the tactics or knew about them.

After WW2, Poland received a significant part of Eastern Germany. How was the resettling of that area handled by the Polish government? My impression of the sequence of events following the war is as follows:

1. Germans who had not already fled west were expelled, and at some point cities such as Szczecin were virtually empty
2. Meanwhile, the cities in the region were looted by Soviet soldiers moving westward
3. At some point, the area was resettled by Poland, and particularly with Poles from the region they lost to the Soviet Union

Now there are a lot of unclear points I'd like to see answerered:

• How early did the resettling start happening? Were the cities in fact empty for a significant period of time between the Germans leaving and Poles moving in, or did a lot of Poles follow behind the Red Army?
• How were surviving houses/apartments distributed among arriving Poles? Was there an organized process, or was it "every man for himself"?
• If there was an organized process, did Poles expelled from now-Western Ukraine get prioritized when houses/apartments were being divided out?
• I don't get the impression that there were a whole lot of Poles living particularly in western cities like Szczecin, but what did those that did live there do during this whole process?
• How were things like city councils/bureaucracies bootstrapped in formerly German cities? (To what degree did city governments matter in communist Poland anyway?) Did Poles already living in the cities attempt, successfully or not, to take power?
• How were farms distributed?

Was it broadcast on Russian TV? Did the Soviet leaders of the time watch it? How did the public react?

What if any evidence was there during the war of 1812, specifically on the North American continent what if any kit would the British officially appropriate from American stores, battlefields, raids, ect.

If so who would it go to native allies, militia, sold as surplus?

It seems like theres always some new prophet in the middle east or Europe. We learned of Jesus and Muhammad and Mani and Bab from the middle east. And there are the leaders of new religious movements in India and America like Hare krishnas, Guru Nanak of the Sikhs, Joseph Smith of Mormonism, the Quakers, Shakers and Anabaptists, L Ron Hubbard.

But I can't think of any from Asia or Africa. Either its the same kind of Buddhism, or their indigenous religion. Otherwise, they don't seem to have as many new religion founders. Am I wrong? or Why is this?

In other words, was the Fascist model practically applicable the same way Marxism has been adapted to the famed Scandinavian Socialist Nordic system, or was it dependant on Totalitarian ruthlessness, and has there been any attempt to establish a Fascist state peacefully?

By unification I mean when the coins minted by, say, Florence where accepted as currency by neighboring cities, or under it's sphere of influence.

Why did politicians in emerging European parliamentary democracies since 1776 not adopt the Presidential system?

I remember seeing a few posts on reddit about how SFR Yugoslavia was probably the best communist nation in the world, since Tito's form of socialism actually let workers decide what they wanted to do and did not centralize to the extent that Belgrade had the same fiscal control as Moscow did. Was Yugoslavia actually that much better or was it comparable to the rest of the Eastern Bloc?

[also as a side question, how many political prisoners did they keep? was that comparable to Soviet prisoners?]

I know next to nothing about Betty Paige accept the numerous photos of her on Reddit, but she seems much more 'current' and natural today, than other 1950's sex symbols to emerge from the 1940s and 50s. Despite perhaps exposing more skin, there seems to be a more care-free playfulness to her with less of the dark history and haunting psychology behind the heavily-made up Marilyn Monroe. What were the prevailing opinions of her at the time? Was she even a household name?

I've heard that outside of America, Objectivism is seen as laughable to the point where even philosophical works of Rand are relegated to the fiction section. Besides writing long novels, creating a sort of cult of personality, and appearing on talk shows, did Ayn Rand have any appreciable impact on anything?
