I have always wondered how historians, especially in the military history field, determine the outcome if a commander made a different choice or if a mission happened differently.

Richard Dunn's Sugar and Slaves: The Rise of the Planeter Class in the English West Indies, 1624-1713 mentions maroon communities and how they interacted with Indies colonial activities throughout the book, and even has a reference to something referred to in the index as the "Maroon Wars". However, he does not really go into much detail about them. Thus, I was wondering if anyone knew of any other books I could look up to find out more about these communities.

My daughter has a oral book report due next month about a person who had a significant impact on the world. Based on my daughters age and also her interests, she chose to complete her presentation about Anne Frank.

I read a version of the Diary of Anne Frank several times when I was her age, however since then, there have been different variations released due to additional pages/documents being found including the pages found after her father Otto died.

From what I can find, it appears there is an A Version, B Version, and C Version, however on Amazon, they are not listed this way. I do understand that there is a version that some parents feel is inappropriate for preteens to read, however I disagree with the parents who sought to censor this particular version. I appears this version is titled “The Diary of a Young Girl: the Definitive Edition”, which was published on the 50th anniversary of Frank’s death, however I'm not sure if another version has been released since then.

Does anyone know the title of the most complete/ historically accurate version of Anne Frank's diaries? I do realize that a portion of her diaries have never been found, however I would like to purchase the most complete and uncensored version.

The Cyclades today are mostly sparsely populated islands, barren and dry, with very few forests (or even trees) and potential for agriculture, and some even suffer water shortages in summer and have to bring it by boat. Abandoned terraces can be seen across the islands.

Yet these islands were home to flourishing cultures in the Antiquity, they traded and exported all sorts of goods. Was the climate different in Antiquity in the center of the Aegean? Were the Cyclades more populated then than today? Did some of them have forests? And could human intervention (like overgrazing, deforestation, etc) explain the way they look today?
