Has Zoroastrianism always been a religion that doesnt allow anyone to convert?

It seems like that is a prime reason to the decline in the number of followers.

What about Manichaeism?

What are some resources for studying the evolution of a frontier in the abstract or by cross-comparing frontiers?

I'm trying to start an academic project on studying how frontiers evolve in the abstract to make predictions about how the internet will evolve in the future, but I am having difficulty finding resources that study how frontiers change over time in the abstract or by comparing multiple frontiers. Most of what I find is only about the historical change of a single frontier, rooting those changes in study of that particular frontier's social content and context. Does anyone know of good research materials that are tilted towards studying how frontiers evolve more abstractly? No rush; I'm just doing this project on my own, its not for a class or anything. Thank you in advance.

Did the Russians actually train dogs to destroy German tanks in WW2?

I've read that during ww2, the Soviets used to train dogs to destroy German tanks but that it went wrong for a variety of reasons (dogs don't like loud noises, were trained on Russian tanks, etc.) All of this sounds pretty apocryphal so I was wondering if this actually occurred and to what extent it's true.

Where did the money go during the great depression?

Regarding the US only, in school, they only teach about how it "started" and how it "finished", but if there is such a deficit in money it had to have gone somewhere. Did it spread to other countries, go into the pockets of the well off, or what?

Why did both sides in the American Civil War consider George Washington likely to support them (states rights vs union of states) based on what he said/did?

Didn't both sides also justify their causes based off Washington and the rest of the founding fathers (like Jefferson)?

Was the Bronze Age collapse limited to the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East?

I was doing some reading on the collapse and most of the stuff I can find talks about Crete, Egypt, Greece, and Mesopotamia. Was there a similar collapse in East Asia and India? And what was going on in the Western Mediterranean?

Did American and Soviet forces ever fight each other directly during the Cold War, or was all of the fighting via proxy wars and/or superpower vs. smaller state?

I should add that I mean on a small scale. I'm well aware that World War 3 didn't happen.

Why didn't Germany invade France through Luxembourg in World War One?

I always see Luxembourg on maps of the Belgian invasion in WW1, and wonder why the Germans didn't sent their military through there. It seems like it would have avoided bringing in the British into the war, and likely would have been easier to push through. Why was Belgium a better option for the Germans to invade through than Luxembourg?

North Korea

Could someone tell me how North Korea came to be considered any type of threat after the Korean War? I giggle at their rhetoric, as I think I'm programmed to, but do they carry any heft as a country to be reckoned with? Have they been dastardly busy since the '50s?

Can anyone give me more information about these Nazi swords my Grandfather brought back?

http://imgur.com/a/p4I2q

My grandfather brought back several swords from Europe when he served in WW2, like many veterans who saw real action he never spoke about his experiences so we don't know when or how he acquired them.

Each of his kids took some of his pieces after his death and my father ended up with these two swords and this pin. I figure the bayonet is more ornamental, the blade is fairly square but the sword has a bit of an edge on it. Probably a Calvary sword based on the blade length/width.

Does anyone know more about these pieces? Like who they were issued to, what their purpose was, or when they were made (I can't imagine they would be producing swords after the start of Barbarossa.)

What is the historical context of Fiddler On The Roof regarding the expulsion of Jews from Russian villages? Were the Jewish residents new to that region? Or had they migrated there generations earlier? What was the reason for the expulsion of a non-militant population? Thanks.
