I just watched a documentary on Percy Fawcett "Secrets of the Dead: Lost in the Amazon" released in 2011 and at the end they were speaking of Geoglyphs that had been found due to the logging expansions and google earth, and they posited that they may have been the location of large cities with populations upward of 60,000 or so.

I was wondering if in the past several years any progress had been made of any of the details of the geoglyphs with accuracy or archaeological discovery, or possibly things that were known before the documentary was shot, but were not included.

Ive seen an image where Japanese officers drive a Pz.Kpfw VI 'Tiger'. Did they take that kind of technology back home or not? Do we have cases that the Germans and Japanese learned from eachother?

I've seen various sources say different things about the last units to stop fighting in the Battle of Berlin. Some say the Zoo flak tower, others says White Russian allied with the Germans while a few use general terms like SS units.

I was watching Braveheart (I know) the other day and the scene with that saying came up and I was just wondering if it was a actual legal right of feudal lords in Europe. From the searching I myself have done it seems to be a myth that sprang up in the Victorian age.

I'm not a big fan particularly, but went reading old plot synopses online today, trying to reconnect with my scattered memories as a young child watching it. On face this story seems rather similar to The Grapes of Wrath for example... a very poor, yet proud rural family struggling to survive the Depression, their socially inequitable position made clear by snobby relatively wealthy people they encounter, amongst many others struggling as they were. They actively engaged in a socially progressive way with Afro-American and Jewish neighbors, grappled thoughtfully with women's changing roles, and often put themselves out to help those less fortunate than themselves, suggesting a broad social conscience. Wouldn't these characters be best understood as quintessential New Deal progressive Democrats?

I've read that the popular Roman characterization of Persia, Egypt, and to a lesser extent Greece was that people in these places were decadent and effeminate, compared to the Romans who valued more masculine, stoic virtues. But I can't imagine that men in Persia and Egypt would have characterized themselves this way, so what type of person did the men of the ancient Near East strive to be, and did they associate virtue with masculinity? The two examples of "manly men" that come to mind are Gilgamesh (millennia removed from the Persians/Romans) and Samson from Judges (a great warrior, but ultimately not a model to emulate). Thanks for any clarity you can provide and sorry if my perception is totally off-base.

I'm not specifically talking about child prostitution or young brides, even though I'd be very interested to know how prevalent both of these were. More specifically, I'm wondering about the treatment of children by their parents and elders on a daily basis. Were they beaten a lot, and, if so, how severely? Were there any forms of cruel or unusual punishment?

Then, are there any records of specifically child molestation in those times (say before 500 A.D.)? For instance, an uncle that was molesting a family's daughter or something of the kind?

I guess replies could possibly be NSFW, so I'll throw the tag on as soon as I post. The timeframe I had in mind is say 300 B.C. to 500 A.D., and specifically in European / Little Asian countries, i.e. the Greek / Roman empires.

Hi clever people!

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask but perhaps someone can point me in the right direction. Some years ago I had a tattoo done of a stained glass window which signifies conception. This image was taken out of an encyclopedia we had at home and as far as I can remember, this window was in a chapel in Germany or more specifically, in Berlin. I may have this wrong though...

The original tattoo was very poorly executed and I now have an appointment with a very talented artist to have it revived. I would like to give him some sort of reference to work from, but I simply cannot find this image online. Perhaps if someone sees it, they will know where the original window is and be able to help me find a source image of this window.

Sad I missed the recent panel AMA! I'm curious to know what happened when Nationalists captured territory from the Republicans, and what it was like to live in that territory while the war went on. My friends who have been on military deployment all come back with "challenge coins", custom coins that have been made to commemorate the campaigns that they served in. is this a custom that is specific to the USA, or do the militaries of other countries also do this? Where did this custom originate?

I recently found out that portions of my DNA (<5%) originate from the Yakutsk people (also known as Sakha). I found this puzzling since I am from Somalia, a east African nation that is very, very, very far away from where the Yakutsk people live (Siberia). I am trying to figure out if previous generations of Somalis' or Yakutsk interacted? Or if any historical information exists supporting cross-cultural interactions?

A broad book that gives me more an advanced insight into the timeline and key events of the Roman Empire.

More books focusing on either Key systems or key figures (I'm particularly interested in finding a good Nero biography).
