I've recently been reading Allan Millett & Peter Maslowski's book For the Common Defense: A Military History of the United States of America, and I came across a brief section that depicts United States Admiral William S. Sims as one of the main forces behind the implementation of the convoy system as the United States entered World War I. The authors however, fail to go into much detail, and I am curious if anyone can point me in the direction of more information. Thanks!

For instance, during the construction of HMS Victory. Also, a corollary; were different techniques used in the East and West?

Just a question I'm kind of curious about...

When I say privateer, I mean being government hired pirates and such. I really want to know what they believed in, as in Protestantism, and what they're main jobs were. Also, what were some of the biggest problems French privateers created and what they led to. Thanks.

Edit: When I say problems they caused, I mean during wartime and how raiding ships affected their enemies.

Good and evil are subjective, I get that, but I still have a really hard time putting myself in the shoes of an Axis soldier and somehow seeing genocide as acceptable. If I were a soldier and knew my side was committing genocide, I would see my side as the "evil" one...

We can all agree that genocide is "evil". So I can understand the Allies' motives. But what about the Axis' motives?

What was "evil" about the Allies in the eyes of the Axis? How did they justify genocide? Were the Allies actually seen as "evil" for preventing ethnic cleansing? Or did the average Axis soldier not know about the genocide taking place and was too manipulated by propaganda?

My basic understanding is that the French Resistance was united in its anti-fascism/anti-Nazism. Were communists, socialists and anarchist a large part of the movements or was it mainly dominated by those in favor of liberal democracy. Was there much conflict between the different groups?

I'm trying to figure out the start and end of each empire, but all my google searches give me a start date but no end date. I'm also wondering if anyone can give me a link to state formation, government, cities, things about each empire. Thank you for your time.

So for example, lets say after an engagement whether air to air or air to ground, and the planes get shot up but make it back, how long would it take to get a plane back in service? Would they be able to make full repairs on the base or ship them somewhere else? What about aircraft carriers? How often would they return to service without complete repairs?

Part of the context of this, visiting a museum on WW1 aircraft, many of the planes would not pass long durability standards simply because the survivability of the plane in combat was low enough that it didn't matter if the plane couldn't fly more than say 100 hours if it would get shot down before then.

I just have doubts that this can be done given the chaos that has happened over the centuries in Europe.

I understand it has been an official religion but has any country based their legal system on it's philosophies?
