Drawing similarities between then and now with the propaganda machines of world powers got me wondering how the masses felt about the general state of things.

Would today's American disposition of anger and frustration be akin to Nazi Germany or considerably different?

Obviously Germans embraced Hitler and his rhetoric but what sentiments did they have about their government and nation before his rise to power?

Are we setting up an environment today that may be conducive to bringing about another Hitler?

More specifically, why do they hold only Northern Ireland, and not like, either none of it or all of it?

Also, has there ever been anti-Amish sentiment? They aren't evangelizing like the Mormons, but I wonder if their business practices provoked some ire.

What is the general trend for immigration to Africa, especially more turbulent places like the Congo or Ethiopia?

I recently took a U.S. History Class in my high school that was supposed include history up until 2009; however my teacher did not get to most of it. He only taught us up until around 1975(this is when I started to get really interested in history at this point) He just gave us the answers to the parts of history that we didn't cover. So, I have very little knowledge about what has happened from then onward. I know the name of some wars that has happened since 75' but nothing more than that.

If anybody could give me some guidance on this subject this, whether that may be, links, stories, etc. I would be grateful.

Did Germanic peoples in Late Antiquity have an understanding of their relation to one another? Did an Anglo-Saxon recognize a Dane as being Germanic? Did Norsemen understand they were related to Germans?

What about Slavic people? Did ancient Poles and Rus people recognize that they belonged to a greater Slavic whole?

Was this knowledge widespread?

I'm inclined to think that most people had no idea. Some were perhaps disturbed by similarities between themselves and others.

The day some guys land on the beach with swords is traumatic enough. If you'd never been made privy to knowledge of the world (outside of England), the fact they're so similar to yourself might frighten you even more.

I recently saw a special that at one point discussed the 801 and it said that after the war the US made BMW sign a treaty, in which contained a clause that forbid them from producing jet engines. That intrigued me, and I was curious to know if the engines were really THAT good, or what other engines or manufacturers of engines could accomplish at that time compared to when the 801 came out. I know it says not to ask what if questions, but if the engine had been produced 5 years sooner, would it have impacted the outcome of the European front?

It's very easy to find accounts of flying serpents and dinosaur-sized reptiles, written by historians considered otherwise credible and sometimes even from a first-person perspective.

I have been completely unable, however, to find any supposed eye-witness report of a reptile that breathes fire or smoke, not even a tiny, wingless one.

Is this because there aren't any?

I graduated this past semester with a degree in history (and a music minor too) and am uncertain about what to do next. I know grad school is something that I will probably have to do eventually, but it's not something I'm interested in doing right now.

So i just wanted to ask around and see what other people with history degrees have done as far as employment. Is there an area, field, or particular position I should look into? Really trying to see what other people have done just to get a clearer picture of what's next.

Venice and the other merchant republics of the middle ages (Genoa, Amalfi, etc.) were clearly very different from the typical feudal-aristocratic monarchies that dominated most of medieval Europe, but how different was life for the common people who lived under these republics? I'm thinking especially of the overseas colonies of the stato da mar, such as Istria, Dalmatia, Morea, Crete, and Cyprus. How did the Venetians govern these colonies?

To provide some background... I commonly see it debated on the internet that Lenin is responsible for the deaths of thousands, that he was a corrupt tyrant, etc. Is their any historical legitimacy to these claims? And if not, what would you say to the people who make this claims?

Something that has long bothered me is calling pagan religions/traditions by their culture. Did religions like Nose, Germainc, Hellenic paganism have shortened names, or titles. I've seen Norse Paganism be referred to as Ásatrú. I'm not sure if that is a recent invention, but do historians have names for pagan religions beside calling them Blank Paganism? Or did the adherents to these faiths have titles for them?
