I understand that Leninism is considered either a contribution or corruption to Marxism, but am struggling to under stand exactly what Lenin contributed or removed from Marxist theories.

I had a friend ask about them and I have found very few legit sources online. Also, from my understanding there are two of them? One being The Emerald Tablet of Hermies, and the other, a potentially fabricated one called The Emerald Tablets of Thoth.

I'm a guy that was born and raised in the South (well born in Missouri, raised in Arkansas since I was one year old and went to undergrad/am going to Grad school in Arkansas). As such, I was taught in middle school that the South seceded because of states rights, and the argument "They only left because racism" was unfair, if not blatantly false.
However, if you look at the Ordinances of Secession for most southern states, slavery is right there in the paragraphs. So slavery was obviously on their minds. If you look at Arkansas' Ordinance of Secession though, (http://gen.1starnet.com/civilwar/arord.htm) it puts the total blame of war on Lincoln's call for troops against the rebels in Fort Sumter. If you look at the Wiki page on Arkansas, we even refused the initial call for secession until Lincoln openly showed that he would go to war to preserve the Union.
I checked the Wiki here, and all questions about slavery and the Civil War include answers that either don't specifically speak on Arkansas or make assumptions about the South that lumps Arkansas in with everyone else. Arkansas, contrary to popular belief, has done some great stuff in its history. And I refuse to believe that we left the Union just because Louisiana liked slaves. Unless, of course, there are some PhDs that know that to be the case.
So, how much did slavery factor into the Arkansas secession? Slavery wasn't widespread in Arkansas, and while we were undoubtedly racist, we seemed more worried about doing what we wanted to do than actual, full-blown slavery. Is Arkansas actually one of those states that seceded over states rights, or were we racists that hid our hatred in protecting our fellow southerners?

I'm just wondering. Some people still hold on to the notion that the "dark ages" were a dark period of scientific regression. That the church suppressed science, that not one scientific achievement was made since the Renaissance and that there were stupid people everywhere. What do you guys think?

My parents have had this portrait of my father's great grandfather for a long time and we have never been able to identify the country of origin.
There is great debate in the family as to where we can trace our roots, and any info anyone can provide could put an end to at least part of the debate.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Many soldiers, when returning home, were spat upon or even ignored by their fellow citizens. I would think, just because they are fighting a war you don't necessarily agree with doesn't give you the right to disrespect them so harshly, especially military vets. It just doesn't add up to me. Maybe it's just because it was a different time and a different era, but I'd like to hear what real historians have to say.

I'm aware that the Russian Orthodox Church was persecuted during the rise of the Soviet Union but they also were considered to be associated with the Czarist government. What about Catholics in Lithuania or other parts of the Soviet Union where Catholics lived?
Also what about the same scenario but in Poland after it becomes communist?

I can count 10 Chinese take out places in my home town off the top of my head, but only a couple of other cuisines. Why is this?
Edit: I'm talking either delivery or pick up. Not fast food chains. And I live in NE Ohio but I've been around the country and there never seems to be a lack of Chinese places to call for food. So I'm basing this a lot on personal experience.
Edit 2: So maybe calling Chinese food America's #1 ethnic take out food wasn't accurate. But still to me at least there still seem to be a ton of Chinese restaurants that all do take out and many deliver, while other ethnic foods are harder to come by. So I guess my question is how did Chinese food get to be so big in the US when other ethnic groups make up a much higher percent of the population. I'd have to search to find Mexican food that delivered, but I can take my pick of Chinese places.

I noticed that the Kremlin funded RT.com headlines today seem somewhat economical with the truth, failing to mention reports of a missile bringing down MH17 near the Ukraine-Russia border. During the Cold War the US funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Did the Kremlin ever create or contemplate an English (or French etc.) response? Did RT.com have a predecessor?
I remember the BBC would report that USSR TV & Radio stations had started playing military music leading to speculation that Brezhnev/Брежнев was near to death. There never seemed to be an "unofficial" mouthpiece.

I checked the FAQs and didn't see anything on this topic. Just curious if we know whether Australian natives had the same levels of mortality/morbidity from European diseases after contact as natives in the Americas did, and why or why not. Thanks in advance!
