The end (of the school year) is nigh. Let us talk about homework.

If you are luckily enough to be on the semester system, the school year is about to come to an end. It is finals season. This means that those research papers you were supposed to be working on since day one are about to be due. We need to chat about homework.

We will help you with your homework. We will explain finer points of history if you are confused--additionally, see /r/HomeworkHelp. We want you to perform well in your courses, because those of us on the other end want to read excellent essays and give good grades. However, we will not do your homework.

Many of us are actual instructors. Additionally, many of us have spent years locked away in academic institutions trying to get that silly academic garb that is only worn at pompous ceremonies. We know what homework prompts look like; we know them when we see them; and we know when you are posting them. We step up moderation this time of year and remove these questions.

What does it mean that we will help you if we remove homework questions? /u/eternalkerri spells it out nicely. Be upfront with us. Tell us it is your homework and we will guide you to the promised land of scholastic success. We will gladly give you resources to help you grapple with these topics; we will help you understand complex history; and some of us might even proofread parts of your paper.

But remember: Just as it is the end of the school year for you, it is also the end of school year for everyone else who is blessed enough to be on the semester system. We are just as busy writing our own papers and/or answering emails from panicked students and grading your papers that we were supposed to have graded earlier.

Here is to a good end of the school year for all. It is finally baseball season.

In what way was the Weimar Centre Party a "patriarchal corporative system of government"

Hey,

I was going through some notes on German parties during Weimar for my exam next month, based on a document produced by the Bundestag. It describes the Centre Party (ZP) as having left and right wings, the latter of which supported a "patriarchal corporative system of government". What do they mean by a patriarchal corporatocracy?

Thanks

When and why did commissioning art die as a cultural concept? (ie. if I go to a museum it feels like 80% of art older than one century was a commission and only 1% of art made within the last 50 years was a commission)

I have looked into the concept quite a lot as I have a company in the area and have my own "theories" as to what killed it but I would rather know why it actually went away then stick with the made up reasons I came up with.
Even just pointing me to something I could read on the topic would be incredibly helpful.

When we learn about ancient empires, we often see colored maps showing the exact territory they controlled. Is that how the people in those empires would have viewed it?

Considering that maps for much of history were rare and inaccurate, Did people even entertain the idea that they were conquering territory? Or did they think more that they were conquering cities and peoples?

Researching the politics behind how Chernobyl melted down and the cover up following suit for a History paper, any books or sources you guys recommend?

Hello!

My Grade 10 world history teacher assigned us an essay for our final grade, and I had picked the topic of Chernobyl. The essay is to be argumentative, and I had been contemplating that the incident was the fault of Soviet bravado and arrogance. We're also to look up the evidence to support our claims, and I'd decided to come here asking for recommended sources on the Chernobyl incident, preferably with information relating to the human cause and consequences of the disaster. Thanks in advance!

Do we have any contemporaneous works by the great writers of ancient Greece and Rome?

Not in their own hand, of course ... but when it comes to people like Horace, Virgil, Tacitus, Cicero, etc., do we have any copies of their works that were published either in their own lifetime, or shortly after?

Because I've always wondered if we're just relying upon copies of copies of copies of copies, and so on. Were the humanist scholars of the 14th Century just copying Carolingian documents? Or did they have original material from Roman and Greek times?

I recently saw an article claiming that racism created race, not the other way around. Is this true?

The writer of the article said something like "white people determined who was and who wasn't a n-gger in a way that both helped them and hurt Black Americans."

Is it true that race only exists because of racism?

Are there any reliable statistics and sources concerning the killings of nations since about 1900?

I am looking for information and statistics about which state killed how many people since about 1900. The death must be caused directly by war, conflict, death penalty, genocide, any form of brutality against its own or foreign people or anything like that. It must be caused by any agent of the state, no matter if soldier, police or any by the state or its forces hired persons. I am not looking for indirect killings like poverty, polution or careless actions that led to accidents of any kind.

I hope my question is clearly expressed. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry for my English!
