Hello, historians. What books you can suggest me to understand better the historic events? The kind of books that make emphasis, not in dates but in causes. Questions like why the roman empire felt? Why the Muslims rose, to fall, some centuries after to Europe? Something that connect and explain world events.
I'm looking more for books that cover a long time and not just specific epochs.
Thanks in advance.

Generally the numbers of soldiers seem to be ten times higher in the time up to and including the fall of time to those after it. Even excluding the embellishments of Herodotus I have read that Marius fought 200,000 Gauls and that Octavian commanded even more. By comparison the armies at Agincourt were a tenth of that size. What changed?

So, the Empire is divided into quarters (later halves) centered around four capital cities (later two) other than Rome.
What now for the City of Rome? What happened in the short-term? How did it effect the city for the rest of the Empire (Economically, Politically & Socially) in the long-term? What happened to the wealthy Roman Senators that called it home? How did they react to it?
And last, but not least, how did this effect the very character and nature of the Empire itself? It's capital city was no longer in Rome, yet it was still the Roman Empire who's citizens were Roman. Did the move damage Roman pride/prestige in the short or long-term? Was there ever a serious effort to move the capital back to the City or a resentfulness for ever moving it away?

I'll elaborate, how were the borders organized before Europeans came to the continents? Meaning, did the Aztecs cross borders with the Mayans? Who did the Aztecs war against, did they have a steady nation that they continuously fought against (for example England and France, America and Russia). How were nations and countries mapped - do we know or is it lost to history?
My question is probably all over the place and it's badly put, but I hope I can gain some insight!

I'm not sure why the SCOTUS did this or what the ruling was called. Is Dred-Scott involved in this at all? Any elaboration would be greatly appreciated.
