Did anyone in the 1930s point out Adolf Hitlers resemblance to Charlie Chaplin? I am watching the 1980s made for TV miniseries "The winds of War" A character in the show refers to Hitler as "The little tramp" I am aware Chaplin made a movie where he played a very Hitler like character but I am wondering if the was at all a part of popular culture of the era?

I've read about Stalin having various dachas around the USSR, and he obviously had no trouble feeding himself. How much wealth did he acquire? Did his heirs inherit any of his wealth?

Say King George III and King Louis the XVI were talking to each other at a diplomatic function. How would they have addressed each other?

My grandfather gave me this sword a few years back and told me that it was used by submariners in WWII. That's all the info I have on it and was hoping someone could give a more detailed history. Album below, thanks all!

Hello and good evening /r/AskHistorians. I come to you with a couple questions about the Irish Brehon laws. I was wondering if any of you could tell me or point me in the direction for, information on how an individuals honor-price was determined and how much an eraic was? Also if possible I would very much like to know the honor price for each grade of king was. As for when, post-norman conquest to pre-flight of the Earls would be excellent.

EDIT: To specify, by organized crime I meant something similar to a mafia; all the posts about Crassus being evidence to at least one example of this existing. However, I meant this as a somewhat open-ended question, and appreciate all the discussion.

In history class in school, we often heard that the Adjurcation act/Akte van Verlatinghe was in many ways a starting point for the Declaration of Independence, and includes a lot of its ideas in the US constitution, especially when it comes to the "right" to break away from the Sovereign. To what degree did the Act actually influence the US DoI and whatever followed. ?

I read through the FAQ's briefly, in regards to Spartan training, but I'm curious how the agoge prepared Spartan soldiers compared to the training given their peers in other city states like Athens. Any answers or direction towards relevant sources would be much appreciated.

How did German Colonialism affect Namibia? What did it look like while it existed? What are some effects caused by the arguably "colonial" rule of South Africa over Namibia following World War I and lasting until Namibian independence in the 1990s?

It kinda seems like it would be difficult and not really do any damage. Also, how would you go about attacking a phalanx?

Sure, we've got our hot coffee and tea. But nearly all alcoholic beverages, and most everything else, it seems, is preferred served chilled. It seems to me that given that the vast majority of human history was taken up with us not being able to do this, we ought to have developed a lot more traditions of drinking beverages at warm or lukewarm temperatures, but these are almost nonexistent, across all cultures. Why?

I (a high school junior) am working on designing my own curriculum for an independent study on the Russian Revolution. My supervising teacher is helping but expects me to find much of my material. The only problem is I am entirely unsure where to start looking. I've found some basic outline pieces but I completely lack anything in depth. Are there any books that are an absolute must read? I'm covering the span of forty seven or so years from 1880 (tsar Alexander III taking the throne) to 1927, when Stalin consolidated his power. Any and all help would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you.

I was watching some WWII footage recently and seeing planes attack ground units and it had me wondering if there were any instances of ground units killing the pilot using basic weapons (not AA). Whether it is a head shot kill to the pilot, or a crippling shot to the engine i'm just curious if this has ever happened.
This could be in any war, not necessarily WWII
