What was so impressive about Napoleon's April 1809 campaign?

Asking because I remember seeing someone (don't remember who, but IRRC he had a high/respected rank in an army) said that it was one of his finest campaigns. I looked at the battles on Wikipedia though and Napoleon outnumbered his opponents in almost every battle, sometimes by a ridiculous margin, so it doesn't seem that special. Can someone explain if it was actually impressive, or did Napoleon just win because he had a massive army compared to his opponents?

Joseph Stalin, despite being a Georgian, became the leader of the USSR. Was this celebrated as a sign of how Communist ideals led to accepting diversity, (similar to how the election of the first non-white President in the USA was celebrated), or did it disturb the primarily Russian population?

Were anarchists involved in the Bialystok Pogrom of 1906?

Wikipedia says that

81 and 88 people were killed by soldiers of the Imperial Russian Army, the Black Hundreds and the Chernoe Znamia

and lists Chernoe Znamia among the "perpetrators" in the infobox. But there's no other reference to this anarchist group (also called "Black Banner") in the article other than mentioning that it had a "strong organization" in the city, and there's no citation given for the claim. In fact, the Wikipedia article about Chernoe Znamia itself says that the group had many Jewish members.

What's going on here? Is this just random misinformation that got put there to discredit anarchists? Or was this a real thing and just badly cited on the Wikipedia page?

Why did people believe that slaves built the pyramids of Egypt?

Until reasonably recently when new evidence came to light most people believed that the pyramids were built by slaves.

There must have been some conviction behind this because until the 90's in the UK at least it was taught as fact in schools. Having a look around though I can't see what the original justification or evidence for this comes from.

The oldest known gravestone in the US belongs to Reverend Ephraim Huit, who died in 1644. The last line of his epitaph reads "Alas, the times forbid an Epitaph." Were epitaphs actually forbidden in 17th-century New England? What's the context behind this statement or joke?

What are some examples of British Colonial or early United States slave owners that freed a large number of slaves in their lifetimes? What were the repercussions on their lives?

The topic of slave ownership by the founding fathers of the United States is, rightfully, a major source of contention in the retelling of their history. I understand you need to take individuals within the context of their time and culture, so I'm wondering about if there were any prominent slaveowners who were contemporaries to the founding fathers that did free a significant number of their slaves and how they were affected by that choice. Even just names for further research would be appreciated.

Why is antisemitism a thing?

Throughout history Jewish people have been persecuted and stuff, but why? It's just another religion like Christianity or Islam, so why is it so commonly hated by people when it's all the same? Like, if they all believe in the same god, how come we don't hear of Christianity and Islam having the same level of hate? What makes Jewish people different in the eyes of others? Why isn't it tolerated as much as the other major religions?

Do we have any insight into how Central/Western African people sourced their ivory?

I have a BA in Art History and I work in a museum with little students who come to visit. Whenever we see ivories, students of all ages are usually familiar with the concepts of poaching and protecting endangered species, so they ask about whether the ivories were "poached." My answer has always been that elephants haven't always been endangered, so if/when people hunted elephants back in the 700's, they weren't doing as much damage to the elephant population as hunters now.

It does make me wonder though, whether people like the Yombe people of Central Africa hunted elephants for their ivory? And what methods did they use, if so?

Hi r/AskHistorians. I have been thinking about the Sea Peoples of ancient Egypt and I've gotta ask: Are we sure "Sea People" wasn't just a term for "sailor"? Mediterranean sailors would surely have made up their own culture back then like they have until modern times, wouldn't they?

Here is the photograph, it features Elvis in the middle, watch on his left wrist (he appears to be gesturing toward it with his right index finger), with singer Paul Anka and legendary engineer Bill Porter. It was taken on August 5, 1972. If it's not a digital watch... what is it?

An antisemite I know posted this on his Instagram story. But these numbers don't add up to me. Does anyone know the truth about this?
