I am a 17 year old still in high school and I am so fascinated with history. I took a world history class last year but the teacher did not really teach in depth and skipped a lot. Now I am taking US history I am loving this class and the teacher.

I want to learn the history of the world that I never truly got to learn last year (we didn’t even have a textbook) and really get familiar with it. I love history so much and I think I found what I really care about.

What things should I do to learn world history? What steps should I take? I have a vague understanding of world history but it is very broad. Where should I start?

From what I understand, the Xiongnu were called Hunna, and may have actually been the predecssors / ancestors to the Huns who ravaged the Middle East, India and Europe. I also believe that the Turkish founding myth is eerily similar to the story of Modu Chanyu for the Xiongnu.

How strong is the evidence that the Huns or Turks were descendants of the Xiongnu?

For example, if you personally knew a slaver, could you arrange a deal on an individual basis -- like, "can you get me such-and-such type of slave?" I ask because some characters in one of my stories meet with a slaver under the pretext of an private business negotiation and trick him into confessing to illegal business practices.

You know, the stuff you’d see on popular shows like, “Vikings,” on the history channel. Or even like the cartoonish portrayal of vikings as buff blonde dudes wearing horned helmets. Where did the stereotype/falsehood come from?

I was just thinking this question as I was clipping my toenails. (Sorry, a bit gross I know.)

But how did they control...it. Was it something to do with gravel sanding them down, or did they file them? I guess the same applies for fingernails (Which maybe were a bit easier to deal with). But toenails need maintenance, how did they do?

I understand that before shoes it probably took care of itself, but I'm interested in after that :-)

We are currently studying the subject of gun laws in school and my assignment was to research how JFK's assassination affected the gun laws in the US, specifically what people thought about them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is usually claimed by laypersons that one of the causes of the rise of totalitarianism in Europe was the great depression, and I have recently started thinking how much of that is true. For instance, Mussolini rose to power in 1922, before the depression. How much of an effect did the great depression have on the totalitarian wave in Europe? Did it cause it or enhance it? We usually claim today that bad economy hurts the current ruling regime, so potentially did the great depression damage public support of totalitarian rulers?

It's probably another question by itself, but how much effect did it have on socialism? I assume that socialist and communist countries did not avoid getting hurt by the great depression, so did it in their own countries reduce support of socialism?

Grandpa moved to Chicago from Syria and lived in Chicago from the beginning of the century to the 1930s. I am not believing that he was a professional roller skater and my family and I would love to know the truth. Thank you!

Did Russia control everything that happened in its “member states” for lack of a better term, or did they have some form of limited government like the state system in America?

For example, Aussies call eachother "Mate" or the British refer to others as "Chaps". I'm trying to find out what term the Roman's used to call eachother for a small play I'm helping write but I havent met much success.

Does anyone have any good articles or texts or general information about how Americans felt being involved in a war and also being engulfed by the Spanish Flu epidemic in 1918? Personally in relation to my direct family, my great-grandfather lost three siblings to the flu. all while having draft cards written for WWI for him and his other brothers, I just wonder the toll that all of this had on American citizens. Wish I could ask that generation. Any info would be great

Granted the materials to produce it idely were probably less abundant, but is there any documentation of people experiencing phenomenons they had no explanation for, that in hindsight might have been just static electricity? I imagine if someone felt that tingling sensation and saw their hair raise on its own they might think it's magic or a religious sign

Were there ever any “Native Antarcticans”, or how about any colonial powers hoping to colonize the continent? Would there any known reason to colonize it in the first place?

The Antarctic Treaty made it so countries can’t claim Antarctica or use it in nonviolent ways. What about beforehand. Did the British or Dutch ever decide to get another colony on the continent? Did any natives live on its coasts originally?
