I mean I find it idiotic to stand in line and face an onslaught of range weapons. Why not just attack the camp?

After starting playing Azur Lane and looking up some of the ships that are used in this game (mostly ships that served in WW2), I noticed that a lot of them were decommissioned very quickly (USS San Diego was run from 1942 utnil 1946, USS Enterprise from 1938 - 1947).

Considering that the latets USS Enterprise ran from 1961 - 2017 and the last USS San Diego launched in 2010 and is still not decommissioned, what prompted the quick decomissioning of these WW2 ships?

As these are rather expensive ships, what happened that they were scraped so quickly?

At what point in history did the kings of Francia stop speaking the germanic frankish language and adopt Latin/Old French?

Was it because the Romans deliberately evacuated rather than forming new arrangements with the 'barbarians' a la Frankish Gaul and Ostrogothic Italy? Was Romanness just more entrenched in the Mediterranean territories? Or is it just a problem of source material?

I researched Civil War and try to understand how this contributed to racism. When US History is not something I learned in classroom, it is also hard to understand reasons behind civil war and how it shaped the country. So I would be glad if someone could help me understand the background and its impact.

I heard this from a South African about a year ago but forgot the name of the tribe/group that they said and didn't look into it further after that.

It went like this. The current black population that is there, and lived through apartheid after whites took over, took the land from another group of African people that lived around where Capetown is today.

Is this real? And if so, who were they? How were they different from black South Africans today?

I will soon be getting my degree and wanted to do a personal research on a matter. The thing is, the museum is abroad and so I intended to email them to ask for permission. I was playing Total War: Rome 2 (I know not the best of sources) and in the base game the principle and hastati units fight with swords, but in the Divide Et Impera mod, which is a much more realistic mod, they both fight with spears and so I was wondering which weapon they actually used. Thanks!

I've read somewhere that the remaining "Romans"(britons and actual ethnic romans) in the island of Britain was slowly defeated by the saxons and the remaining romans who survived fled to the Western part of Britain. I've also heard that what remains of them formed the kingdom of Wales. Is there any truth in this? Did they slowly assimilate themselves with the saxons? What happened to the people who called themselves romans even after Rome abandoned Britannia?

I ask this because I’ve seen many public opinion polls from past decades that vary wildly or contradict each other, and others that have results so extreme in a direction that it’s hard to believe.

How have the methods of collecting public opinion data evolved and are they in general reliable?

Just about two years ago I began dwelling deep into “alternate history” and the idea that there may have been advanced civilisations tens of thousands of years ago. The most notorious and famous example is Atlantis, the mythical island civilisation which sunk into the ocean after a failed military campaign in which it tried to enslave the world. So a lot of these “theories” claim that the survivors of Atlantis settled amongst hunter gatherer people and “civilised” them and eventually these hunter gatherer groups evolved into civilisations such as the Mesopotamians, Sumerians and Ancient Egyptians.

Just recently I spoke to friend of mine and was explaining these “alternate theories” to him and he jokingly said “white people always want to take credit for everything”. It may have been a joke but I felt there was some truth there. After going home that day I snooped around the internet a little more and stumbled upon a clip from a documentary about the occult beliefs of the Nazis and Hitler, it turned out that Hitler and his followers where major proponents of Atlantis and that they believed the “Aryan” race originated from Atlantis, a great civilisation which reached levels of sophistication and advancement when the darker primitive human beings where still hunting animals with pointy sticks, Hitler believed that himself, the Nazis and the Germans where the direct descendants of the “Atlanteans” or “Aryans” which they believed made them superior over all other human beings.

I recently read The Red Tent and have been watching a documentary series about the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt and between the two I got to thinking about the crossover between biblical peoples/events and historical evidence.

Specifically, is there any evidence among artifacts or Egyptian POV stories of a people known as the Israelites being enslaved by a pharaoh after coming to the area generations prior due to widespread famine? Do we know who that pharaoh might have been? Are there any records of a mass exodus of enslaved people out of Egypt?

Also, when was A/C first used commercially? What was the reaction from people who had never seen anything like it?

My brother and I got into a discussion about drug use in the Germany army during ww2, my brother brought up Scho-Ka-Kola, and how it contained essentially cocaine, however i cannot find much information of this, outside of YouTube comments on some guy unwittingly trying German rations, including Scho-Ka-Kola, and can only find that there is caffeine within Scho-Ka-Kola, however i feel like this is referencing modern Scho-Ka-Kola.
