Might be stupid question but I want to know why only Spain and Portugal seemed to want to find other trade routes to Asia and why they led the age of exploration

I watched They Shall Not Grow Old and in it, one of the British soldiers talks about how he didn't mind the Germans who surrendered, specifically the Bavarians, but that everyone hated the Prussians--including the German soldiers who weren't Prussian.
What was the reason behind this?

I have always had an amateur interest in history and read a lot of non-fiction texts. One area I’ve always been interested in but not had any proper reading material about is the Sengoku period. I am particularly interested in the decline of the Ashikaga Shogunate (and even a book that started slightly before the onin war). Any suggestions for reading would be great. Thanks

For those historians who have watched/listened to Lin-Manuel Miranda's "Hamilton - An American Musical", how accurate are the events portrayed? If some are not accurate, what did actually happen, if it happened at all?

When it comes to the Industrial Revolution, all the famous figures in the history books seem to be from the higher classes – engineers, entrepreneurs and social reformers. Are there any famous workers though, or a least well-documented studies of a worker’s life?
I’m working on a podcast about the history of the eight-hour work day right now, and stumbled upon Robert Owen, who coined the “eight hours labour, eight hours recreation, eight hours rest” slogan. But he was an entrepreneur too. I’d like to start my podcast with a detailed description of a typical day of a real person from the working class during that time. Their working hours, working conditions, living and health situation – someone who’s life would be tremendously improved by an eight-hour work day. Do you have any idea how to find something like this?

I've always wondered why Hitler and the Nazi leadership chose not to restore Wilhelm II or one of his grandsons to the throne. I would have thought that, since many of the Nazi higher-ups were WWI veterans, there would have been a significant element of monarchist nostalgia. A Hohenzollern figurehead could have helped legitimize the Nazi regime and reinforce the idea of continuity from the Second Reich. In my understanding, much of the Nazi narrative and mythology relied on the idea that Germany was getting payback on its enemies, internal and external (so continuity from the Empire was important). According to wikipedia, the Hohenzollerns even offered to take the throne, but were rejected. Why was this? Thanks in advance

Senator Mark Warner was on CNN this morning from King George, VA which seems like a strange name to have survived the Revolution. Were any cities or counties renamed after the Revolution because they were named after British monarchs or were there any unsuccessful movement to have them renamed?

My Dad was stationed in Biak Philippines from 1944 for 2 years then in N.Y. for 2 years. I have tried to get his records and was told they were destroyed in that area of years. He was a Staff Sgt. I want to know more about his service. He never talked much about it. Any help would be great.

As far as I can tell, Gylfaginning is both an attempt at making a comprehensive mythology and reconciling said mythology with Christianity and Iceland's history (Euhemerism, right?). But reading the Skáldskaparsmál, it seems that the point of the entire first part was just to create a firm frame of reference for the writing and reading of skaldic poetry. Why did Snorri feel it necessary to compile a treatise on poetry? Were people still writing skaldic poems at his time? Wouldn't tales of ancestor gods and such have been in increasingly bad taste in christian Iceland?
Sorry if I have made some assumptions in this post - I only recently started reading Snorri's Edda, and fascinating as it is, I'm still trying to make sense of the work as a whole.

I stumbled upon these Wikipedia articles (Creation of man from clay; Theft of fire) which mention mythological similarities in ancient world religions, and it got me thinking about what, if any, antecedents caused the aforementioned. My first guess would be that many religions were influenced by proto-religious traditions like those of the Indo-European and Indo-Iranian variants. But what of religions shared by some cultures in North America, Australia or Asia, which also maintain similar mythological stories?

I apologise if it's a vague question that we don't have enough information on.
Specifically regarding the Amber Routes to/from the Baltic; as far as Britannica is concerned; were:
used... by Etruscan and Greek traders to transport amber and tin from northern Europe.
Any other knowledge regarding ancient trade would also be nice. (
thank you very much for your time!

I've seen this debate for a very long time and it always turns into a biased slugfest. Many will say that the deaths in capitalism outweigh those of communism but almost never provide numbers or if they do they are inflated. On the inverse however, many will also overstate communism's death toll by wide margins. So what's the truth here?
