I have been desperately looking for maps on the Russian Civil War. I would highly appreciate it if someone could refer me to a "war atlas" of some kind.

Early Christianity seemed more open to the idea that many Gods existed, but that their God was a Supreme entity above all others. Gregory of Tours account of the conversion of Clovis I in particular seems to paint Clovis as seeing the Christian God as simply the God most likely to help him in his wars against the Alemanni, more than the modern conception of God as the singular divine entity in all of creation.
Over what period did this change occur, what drove this seemingly significant development in Christian doctrine?

Heya,
Currently taking a class on Victorian Britain, and I wanted to do some research on a somewhat niche subject in relation to it because I had philosophical interests. I wanted to do a study on the phenomenology of the technology in Victoria Britain. Basically, how the emergence of newer technologies -- sanitation, infrastructural"spaces", factory jobs -- any form of technology -- and how it changed the attitudes and every day lives of Victorians. And I do mean how they rationalized things in accordance to technology. My overall interests are related to thinkers like Herbert Marcuse, Marx, and the other Frankfurt school thinkers.
It's a shot in the dark, but does anyone have any great resources with respect to technology in Victoria Britian? It doesn't have to be philosophical, pre'se, but if anyone does have that also in addition to it I'm looking into the concept of technological rationality, repressive desublimation, etc -- these sort of things.

I apologize if this is not allowed, I read through the rules and wasn’t sure. I’m lucky that I have a couple generations of pack rats. My mom has put all of the letters, papers, and journals in page protectors in binders. It such a treasure trove. I’m a history teacher and am drooling over. We can all see what a treasure we have. We don’t have a way to digitize it. We would love to preserve it and make these resources available for people to use! We would also love to know about our own history. What should we do? Are there groups we could approach? Someone we could hire? Thanks!!

For instance, let's say Frank Sinatra's "Learnin' the Blues" was America's most-played song of July 1955. Would that mean if I time-travelled to July 1955 and asked a random person if they'd heard it, they'd probably say yes, regardless of where in the U.S. they lived?

I recently saw a map that showed modern-day Ukraine was part of the Ottoman Empire. How and when were they separated? Thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond!

Hello, something I've been wondering when trying to look into North American Indigenous people were less developed as civilizations than their South and Central American counterparts? Why is it that the Incas and the various Pre-Columbus Aztecs and Mayans had actual civilizations that actually did things; while the Natives in North America weren't interested in creating grand cities; (like Tenochtitian and Cusco).
Apparently something I saw that really got me thinking about this was learning about Cahokia, which doesn't seem as impressive as either of the 2 cities I mentioned, but really got me thinking.

Make no mistake, I am no Nazi. But speaking from a Nazi's perspective, if they are trying to enact the Third Reich then what's the purpose of keeping track of each individual non-Aryan victim? Were they not an inferior race, that was currently being exterminated? Why keep tabs?
I'm really not like this, I just don't understand the purpose behind documenting what the Nazis believed to be inferior. The documents serve us well as to knowing the extent of the Holocaust, but ff they had won and taken over the world, what purpose would that information serve?

I know that the church was persecuted, so did they still play a roll? Did the soviet government get involved at all? Did they try to change any customs? This question is aimed at Russia, but other soviet republics are on the table to.

As demonstrated by the debate on the second amendment, it's really difficult to change the constitution, especially on matters of habits, traditions and individual freedom. How is it possible that the prohibition cause was supported by more than 2/3 of the congress and 3/4 of the states?

I am doing a history research project on feminism and race (specifically first wave feminism) and I found an article claiming that Sojourner’s speech was actually fabricated by a group of white women leading the suffragette movement. I believe the article cited Nell Irving Painter as saying this but can not get my hands on her book so if anyone could lead me to some credible sources or offer anymore info, I’d greatly appreciate it 😊

Hi,
Apologies if this is not the right sub to ask. I’ve read plenty of WWII history books that end with the end of the war, and I’ve also read some books about the Cold War. I’m really interested in reading a history that concentrates on life in the liberated parts of Europe, and in Allied occupied Axis nations, as the war drew to a close and immediately afterwards.
What drew me to this was reading The Third Man. Clearly life was chaotic. How were things run? What was life like? How did the Allies and the people themselves cope with the devastation and the need to feed people let alone rebuild economies and nations? How were governments form? How was order kept?
Book recommendations appreciated! Thank you :-)
