Since World War I was considered “the war to end all wars”, did veterans of the war think that their sacrifices they made during were useless because it obviously didn’t fix anything as evident of World War II happening?

I apologize if this question is too crude, but it's been bothering me for years. I'm just genuinely curious if there's any evidence of how, or if, chaste clergy people satisfied or overcame their sexual desires (assuming they weren't eunuchs).

I am wondering if their is a historical answer to this question.Maybe it is due to a specific era of music that influenced country or specific early artists. Country music is uniquely and especiallysad and I am wondering if there is a reason for this.

On wikipedia it is stated that up to 500,000 Soviet civilians died due to aerial bombing by the Axis. However there is only one source to this claim, that links back to an old article with no evidence. Is this claim of half a million supported anywhere else?

I've never really been able to learn much about the Three Mile Island disaster and i've been curious to know what the chain of events both in the plant and in the wider context contributed to it, what happened in itself, and how it was responded to by the U.S government, local government, and if at all, by the nuclear power industry.

Considering the Assyrians continuously survived till today as a distinct ethnic group and still exist till today in their indigenous homeland, how did this happen? Did the Assyrians really forget of their own kingdom or empire?

I got a project to create a model of battle of the bulge battlefield. Were there any buildings was it mainly fought in the forest or Bastogne. How could i create my model was thinking of putting one side to the left Allies in trenches and create a elevated hill on the right with Germans coming down. Was also thinking of creating two buildings on the left with trenches and Germans coming through the forest on the right.

To give some examples of western "classic literature" I'm talking Homer, St. Augustine, Chaucer, Dante, Shakespeare, Milton, etc. These are authors who's works are considered to be "Great Books". These works are comedies, epics, plays, and poems--fiction. As a side question why are these considered great books? Is there reason to read these great books today? Is there any historical significance or purpose to reading these great books?

There are many arguments against the A-bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but I had never encountered this one before–and the claim being so bold–I immediately questioned it's validity. So was the A-bombing simply a political move by Truman to keep the Soviets out of the post-war negotiations, or otherwise what information did Mr. Stone misconstrue? Thank you for your responses in advance.

No doubt the first and second world war were both devastating wars in Human History, but despite calling WW1 "the war to end all wars" WW2 still happened and preceding that a multitude of different wars that caused non-stop destruction to nations and peoples, so have we really been able to learn from the past and prevent ourselves from making the same mistakes?

Does ancient Semitic/Near Eastern/Mesopotamian religion share a common ancestor with Proto-Indo-European religion, did one grow out of the other, or is there no clear relationship between the two? How did they influence each other in the ancient world? For instance, it seems the Chaoskampf can be found in PIE (Vedic, Norse) and Near Eastern (Sumerian, Canaanite) religions. Also (if we can call these separate traditions), which camp does Greek mythology fall into?

I was playing Crusader Kings 2 the other day and my guy got tuberculosis and the Court Physician's treatment for him was to inhale some animal's fart so I began wondering whether techniques like blood-letting or trepanning ever worked.

I can see not wanting to get involved during WWI, but Hitler wanted complete control of Europe (and eventually the rest of the world, if I understand correctly). Why not Switzerland?
