Did Vikings ever worship their traditional Gods' enemies, such as Surtr, Jörmungandr, and Fenrir?

I've been thinking about the ways that some religions portray their End Of Days myths as great battles with distinct sides. In a world where some exposed to Christianity choose to worship Satan, this makes me wonder if similar practices arise in other religions where some might choose to worship their traditional Gods' enemies directly.

Were there worshippers of the deities and beings that opposed Odin, Thor, and Heimdall at Ragnarok? What form did their worship take?

Is there a Reason Every Military President from Eisenhower to Reagan and HW after him is a Navy Man?

The answer might just be chance but it's something I noticed in that for all the Presidents after Eisenhower until the chain is broken by Reagan and then even George H.W. Bush afterwards all has served in a US navy in some capacity.

Assuming it's not the vagaries of chance, why is the navy relatively over-represented especially amongst the Second World War veterans considering it was by manpower the smallest service during the conflict?

Are There Any Sources(Any Language) That Describe the Oasis Towns of the Tarim Basin that Supposedly Existed During the Era of the Silk Routes?

I’ve seen people and books mention the fact they existed in passing but nothing ever delved deep into what they might have looked like. The idea of lost settlements in the lesser known isolated deserts of Eurasia frequented by people from around the continent working the old transcontinental trade networks sounds so otherworldly and full of mystery that I’m surprised it hasn’t made its way into popular media before. Did they actually exist or was it just passing words and exaggerated stories of people returning home from foreign lands? Thank you.

There is a fairly specific modern idea of what "Viking Hair" looks like. How accurate is this conception? What kind of evidence do we have?

If you go to a Renaissance Faire, watch a show featuring Vikings, or even just google "Viking Hair", the modern conception of Viking hairstyles is inescapable. Hair is long, pulled back on the sides with ties or braids (or shaved on the sides), and pulled into a braid or bundle with volume on the top of the head. Decorative features include small dangly braids or jewelry braided in. Despite some variations in looseness or decoration, the silhouette is remarkably consistent across genders. Is this based on any actual evidence? Is this accurate to what we know of historical Viking hairstyles, or is it a pervasive modern fiction?

Why is Thailand so LGBTQ friendly, culturally speaking, compared to other nearby Asian countries?

While other nearby countries may have same-sex marriage (Taiwan) or limited legal recognition (e.g. China, Japan, and Vietnam), they tend to not be as open to LGBTQ people as Thailand, especially in their culture. What is the historical basis behind relative Thai openness to LGBTQ people?

META QUESTION: Can someone help me? "They were roommates" origin and deeper reasons

I'm curious, I can't seem to find an article on it but I remember reading something that historians being the nerds that they are (love you all)

Tend to use the "they were roommates" so there is no disputing with other historians and arguing over modern labels.

If one historian wants to say the person of interest was Bi-sexual and another wants to argue lesbian or sapiosexual, etc then you can bypass all arguments by not making any assumptions, sticking to the hard truth and just say roommates and "lovers" if you are confident enough about letters between them.

Obviously this would also naturally be an issue of sex education and feminism to boot. But I remember there was reasoning on way it's still done this way barring extreme evidence even in college curriculum and even in liberal source materials.

So Question #1 ) Longshot : anyone remember reading something like that or better at googlefu to help find it?

Question #2) Is there anything someone could point me to for like ethics of historians or something like it where it would support what I'm remembering? Basically that it's bad form to presume sexuality?

What is the purpose for all of the flags?

When watching the Army Navy E Award ceremony hosted in Los Alamos in 1945, you can see them standing infront of 35 different flags.

A few that you can recognize are America in the center, with USSR and UK on either side of it. Brazil is second from the left, and Australia, New Zealand, and Greece are identifiable.

Why are there so many flags? Were they representative of our allies from during the war?

I work at the Los Alamos archives and we are stumped about this.

why didn't Germany launch Fall Gelb in 1939?

I'm curious as to why Germany delayed their invasion of France for over half a year. It would seem more rational to me for them to immediately turn west after Poland fell while France was still mobilizing that fall and catch them even more off guard than they did IRL. Was Hitler afraid of getting bogged down in winter and stuck in a WW1 scenario, or was the Manstien Plan not fully developed after Poland's fall? Giving France an extra 8 months to prepare seems kind of risky from a military point of view.

Would an educated medieval person have recognized that Muslims and Christians worshipped the same God?

Would someone familiar with both of these religions (e.g. a trader or diplomat) have been able to recognize that they worshipped the same God? I'm not talking about society at large, and I imagine clerics on either side had reasons to ignore the evidence, where perhaps an educated (or worldly) layperson might not?

Why and how did 'world's fair'-type of events decline in popular consciousness?

Reading modern history I've often encountered mentions of world's fair events being the catalyst for some important invention or cultural shift.
I've read any cases of this over the years, but some that come to mind right now are:

  • claim that NYC's desire to 'clean up' the visible signs of the gay community in preparation to 1964 New York World's Fair may have contributed to Stonewall riots

  • Eiffel tower erected for Exposition Universelle (1889)

  • 1939 New York World's Fair introduced the concept of television to the public

  • McDonald's floating restaurant (McBarge) for Expo 86 in Vancouver

It appears to me that many of these word fairs were cultural moments, comparable with Olympics or (Association) Football World Cup where the collective attention of the world is focused on one place, one event or one thing happening. They almost remind me of how today many people tune into product announcements by companies like Apple or Google.

Yet, I have a feeling that if you asked any Millennial (or younger) what their favourite world's fair was they'd ask you "What's a world's fair?"
Seems that world's fairs have lost all of their cultural cache.
Wikipedia confirms as much, with approximately 40 world's fairs being held in 1930s but only 5 being held in 2010s, with a bunch being planned in 90s and 2000s and then getting cancelled.

So, my question is twofold.

a) Is my perception that world's fairs were a huge deal back in the day accurate, and

b) If so, what caused the decline?
