Are any of them still in government? Bulgaria's is the only one I know of in detail.

How did the ration distribution systems work? Did troops cook on the front line, or was cooking done behind the lines and the food brought forward? How did rations for troops in the front line compare to those held in reserve, or resting behind the lines?

I got thinking the other day that I have NO idea about horse care. While I know there were horses involved in the various Jacobite risings, I have no idea what that entailed in terms of equipment/food/other things. Who would be involved in grooming on campaign (grooming is the right word?) and how would the process differ than in times of peace when the animal was stabled?

Sorry for asking this question again, but the last time I posted it was on April Fool's Day and it got drowned out by all the festivities and never got a single answer, so I thought I'd try my luck again and ask now that things have calmed down a bit...so with that in mind, here we are! Whilst looking through a Wikipedia article about medals, I stumbled upon the Order of the German Eagle awards, which were mostly given to leaders like Benito Mussolini and other foreign dignitaries...and, strangely enough, Henry Ford.

Why did Henry Ford receive the award, and what did the people of the US and Germany think of him receiving it? Did opinions change with the start of WW2 and the entry of the United States into the conflict?

My family in the mid 1800s in Quebec stated their nationality as Seotch and I can't find any information on Seotch, aside from a mentions of it in books from the 1800s.

I am looking for a book that contains details on every day life on a ship, sailing, engaging in combat, protocols, etc. Most books contain too much politics / events on land.

Time wise I want the book to be around the rise of Nelson but if there is a detailed book around another interesting period of the Britsh navy then I would also look into it.

When reading about some of the battles Rome fought, it's not uncommon for tens of thousands of men to have died. In grand battles like these, what would the losses on the winning side usually look like?

Also, do we have any idea what percentage of the defeated side's losses would typically come during the battle versus being chased down after a rout?

I wonder if we were to report the meeting's of when the drafting of the Declaration of Independence would we label those in attendance as terrorist instead of patriots?

3000 miles is a long time, and the Middle East is hotter than hell. Is anyone actually marching in their armor? Or are they just putting that on when battle is imminent?

The BBC documentary "The Crusades and the Cross" claimed they mostly purchased supplies en route, but I find this hard to believe.

Given how remote Saint Helena is, how is it that nobody attempted to rescue Napoleon either out of a desire for money or allegiance? Couldn't run of the mill traders just have docked and taken him?

Lately I have been wondering about how generous my great-grandparents' and their parents' generations were towards their unexpected guests, and if it led to protests and problems similar to what we are currently seeing with the refugee crisis in Greece and Turkey. (I don't see the current crisis as part of my question, it was merely what jogged my memory)

If so how was it possible? I'd imagine they'd be stretched thin in terms of local law enforcement/tax collectors. If they didn't collect taxes how did the countries generate money?
