I'm wondering how the military strategy change once Germany had been pushed back into their own country. I'm guessing that the West (Britain, France & the US) must have known the dangers of allowing the Soviets to gain all of Berlin for themselves and that the Soviets felt the same about the West.

And not to tack on a what if but could the Soviet occupation of Germany have been avoided if the German counter attack at Ardennes had not been successful and the West taken all of Germany before the Soviets even got through Poland?

Why were the uniforms so colourful? The only practical example I can think of is some Russian troops who had green colours. Why did most armies not institute universal green, or a colour similar to the German's later feld grau?

the Austrian empire in 1700 seemed to follow the Carpathian mountains, and Spain and France continue to use the Pyrenees as a border. did they choose these ranges out of ease to recognise borders or for other reason?

A lot of soldiers fighting for the axis powers were executed after the war. One could argue that the winner is never put on trial, but has there ever been serious and true accusations against American actions during WW2 and what were the consequences?

I've been planning a visit to the NARA DC location for research and access to newspaper articles and any similar publications following the Union naval ironclad USS Monitor sinking on December 31, 1862.

With only a week left in town I've decided to walk in off the street and begin the process of gaining access to the Reading Room (as it's referred to on their official website). Having never done this before I would be so thankful if anyone could share their in-person researching experience at a NARA location and any etiquette tips e.g. how should I dress (more comfortable or professional)?

There must have been a difference (being what, 1000 years apart?) but how big was this difference? Were there notable/significant changes over time?

Most of the ancient cultures I've read about all have similar weapons, for example Europe, The Middle East and Asia all had metal swords, the Aztec used Obsidian swords, virtually all had bows, shields and spears. Were swords and bows etc. all made in the same place once and then spread, or did different people invent them in different places all across the world? If they were invented separately, how are the designs so similar?

I heard from my teacher today that America invaded Vietnam simply because they did not want south Vietnam and generally north to submit to communism. And there was a vote being held in the south determining if they would choose between communism or democracy and he told us early polls indicated the south wanted to become communist and the U.S invaded simply because they did not want communism to spread. Is this true or am I way off?

My great grandfather served in the 101st throughout the duration of the war and finding his old Airborne patch as well as name plate has made me more interested in learning more about it.

My question is prompted by current events, but I would like to know, historically, where has the dividing line been?

For reference, Article III, Section 3 states: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court."

The constitution also contemplates rebellion and insurrection, and gives the president and congress certain powers which are distinct from the powers related to warfare.

So, my question is: where has the line been drawn between rebellion and treason? At what point, if ever, has the government held that citizens have gone beyond insurrection and have committed an "overt act" of "levying war" against the states? Did the Whiskey Rebellion give rise to formal charges of Treason? Did the Civil War? Are there other precedents that would be informative?
