A while ago, I was at the bar having a pint my my professor, and we happened to talk about some weird stuff. I was told by my professor that King Ludwig II had multiple "Gummi Jungen" ( Rubber children) dolls made for him. These rubber dolls were made to look like little boys, which he would then proceed to satisfy is homosexual desires. Apparently, these dolls were kept in the closet at Schloss Neuschwanstein. We joked that next time we went to visit, we would demand to be shown the "Gummy Jungen"!!! So....

I was told the artist who made these was a women. She later went on to paint or sculpt(?) famous American president's heads onto bodies of gods? I tried searching for these paintings to find her name, but I couldn't find her.

This all sounds crazy, I know.... But, I was wondering if any historians here have any knowledge about the subject. I would like to find out, so I can fact check my professor!

On the news today, I was informed that an Ohio Representative (from Dayton, of course) introduced a resolution into the Ohio General Assembly stating that the Wright Brothers were the first men to achieve heavier-than-air flight. At first this seemed absurd, but this measure was apparently taken in response to a different resolution passed by the Connecticut Legislature, which stated that an individual by the name of Gustave Whitehead beat the Wright Brothers to the goal by two years, in 1901.

I wasn't aware there was any debate on the matter- is there actually any disagreement that the Wright Brothers were the first to achieve powered, heavier-than-air flight?

Was the stigma against interaction with Jews so strong that guards who in other circumstances would have taken advantage of their power, chose to suppress these urges? Or were guards more given to abuse their power?

I know very little about the taxation history of the United States after the revolution and am wondering what the first official tax, put on the people by the American government, actually was.

I pick up a lot of 1-2 dollar historical books whenever I pass by them but I find myself reluctant to read some of them as I don't know how to measure their veracity besides amazon ratings etc, which I don't fully trust

I know theres a booklist here that has specific recommendations, but for those times you happen to run into something interesting that's not on it, how can you determine if it's an accurate book that'd expand your understanding or something that might handicap you with misinformation or outdated theories?

At face value, "digital archive" seems a contradiction in terms.

It is very common in Korea and Japan, as well as elsewhere in Asia, for people at home to sit on the floor for studying, relaxing, using the computer, even dining (some restaurants, even fancy ones, also offer floor seating). Such practice is virtually unheard of in Western countries, except among young children.

Is this down to a perception of cleaner floors due to shoes being taken off? Or a lack of room for chairs? Is it a holdover from a nomadic history when transportation of chairs was not easy? Or is it because the chair as an invention was not brought over/commonly seen in the East and this is a holdover? Or some other reason?

My question is: What were some erroneous assumptions made by people concerning World War I during the early stages? I know that the Austria-Hungary people thought that the war would be just between them and Serbia, but that can't have been it. What were some other false assumptions? Thanks!
