Hello friends, sorry if this has been previously asked but I'm curious. Why did Japan attack at Pearl harbour? The United states was a much larger foe? What was their mindset? Also how did they fit in the Axis? The agenda seems really centred around master race, how did they fit? What were plans if any, for after the war? How were they to fit in?
Thanks.

I found it a fascinating read in college. Is it still being used or has it been discredited or found unfactual?

Vietnam, Korea, and Cambodia were huge american policy interventions to stop communism. Why didn't the US similarly launch an invansion into China? The size?

Found an odd metal thing while in South Korea in 2006. No idea what it is or where to even find out what it is other than askHistorians. I honestly can't recall where I found it as it was during one of many live fire exercises I did while in the Army stationed there.
Anyway any help figuring out what it is would be cool.

Also, why were Britain and the Netherlands never formally combined into one country if they had the same king (William of Nassau)?

Sorry if that's a dumb question or worded incorrectly. I know little to nothing about weaponry. Also hope this is the best place to post, i considered r/movies and r/answers too
Edit: I mean the coloring of the fire. You could see the line of the shot, sometimes red or green

I saw the cracked article about them, but felt like there was more to the story.

Over on r/answers, someone was claiming that there was a population boom (claimed by different pop history sources to be in either 400 BC or AD) that resulted in shortages. This, in turn, inspired Chinese cooks to cut meat into small pieces that required table utensils to eat. And, thus, chopsticks were adapted from cooks' tools into tableware.
This sounds kind of fishy to me, mostly because I can't find solid historical sources for any of that. Even Wikipedia implies chopsticks came into popular use as eating utensils in the Ming Dynasty, not the 5th century BC or AD.
So, is there an agreed upon historical consensus for how it actually happened? My instinct is that the bite sized cuts of meat in Chinese cuisine happened organically, probably for cultural reasons.
Are there attested population booms that resulted in food or material shortages? And when did all of this happen?

I know it wasn't the true successor to the Roman Empire, but they clearly fashioned themselves as such.

In Oklahoma the State Legislature voted to end funding for public school Advanced Placement History Classes. I read the wikipedia entry, which discussed the idea of American Exceptionalism, but I am more curious about who are good examples of proponents and critics. It seems to me that the idea of American Exceptionalism could be linked to Eurocentric "The West and the Rest" ideas, and may also be considered a racist argument. Am I off base with my evaluation of this topic of Historical narrative? Who should I be reading?

I know that conscription led to a crisis and riots in Quebec, but how did Acadians view the First World War and their role in it? Did they agree with conscription or disagree with it, as the Québécois did?

To what extent did the US succeed in achieving these objectives by the end of the war? I have a basic understanding of what caused the US to enter the war (Germany's policy of unrestricted submarine warfare, protecting the US's profitable arms trade with the allies, etc.) but is it really as basic as that? Answer and explanations are greatly appreciated.
