Hi there,
I'm going to be giving a presentation on the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict for a University course. History has always been a big area of interest for me, though I can't say I know an awful lot about this particular area of history aside from what I've picked up from the news (which is rarely an unbiased source!)
The required length of the presentation is quite short, so I need to essentially summarise. Wikipedia will probably be helpful to a degree for this purpose, but I would appreciate some outside insight, too. Are there any good websites or eBooks worth checking out? Does anyone here have anything useful to share? I'd definitely appreciate it. Google will be my friend, as always, but I know folks around here love to talk about history, as do I, so I figured this should be my first stop!

Picture of the intertitle in question
As you can see, it has an unusual appearance, with his signature appearing in several places along the border.
The underlined "no exception" seems to anticipate some print of his film with titles inserted.
What is the background of this practice? Were there other directors who did things like this?

In a European city or town you have knowledge of with a mixed population did many Gentiles have much (or any) Yiddish? Were there periods where Gentiles had more Yiddish than others? Was any understanding of Yiddish limited to commonalities between German languages and Yiddish. Particularly interested in Budapest and Hungarian cities but interested generally.

I read this article, and this sentence for me is particularly interesting:
Some researchers hold that an early Indo-European language was spread by Middle Eastern farmers around 8,000–9,500 years ago (see ‘Steppe in time’). This ‘Anatolian hypothesis’ is supported by well-documented migrations into Europe, where agriculturalists replaced or interbred with the existing hunter-gatherers.
What caused them to migrate? Did the existing hunter gatherer also migrated from middle east millenias before?
Were there any similarities between these two groups?
edit: spelling

I was reading a book on Augstan Rome and it mentioned how scholars suggest that the Aeneid was pro-Augustan propaganda. What is it that makes them believe that?

Much of Europe (to my knowledge) went through a "dark age" after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, where not much history was recorded, and thus our historical knowledge is scarce. Has this occurred in other regions at different times? Are there vast periods of, say, Chinese history we know very little about, in between flourishings of recorded knowledge?

Hi,
I'm sorry if this is not really the type of question you want asked here, feel free to just delete it if necessary.
Onto my question:
I want to find either videos or written content on the history of various areas around the world.
For instance - the history of the Iraq/Afghanistan area. Or Chinese/Asian history. Or even American history.
I realise there will be thousands of things I could read on each of the things I just mentioned but I was wondering if any of you guys knew where I could go that would have information on these that was condense, easy to digest, accurate etc
Sorry if I'm still not making myself very clear/shouldn't post here.
TL;DR Where would you recommend someone who is interested in learning broadly about lots of different areas of history. An amateur's starting point?
Thanks in advance

I'm doing an internal assessment on japanese kamikazes during WWII-- mainly why they were formed and their tactics. Are there any books/articles/primary sources that could give me an in-depth background and good insight about kamikazes?

Was it to open a second front in western Europe to further stretch thin the German military? Or was Italy's mountainous terrain that made a bigger advance unappealing? Or something else entirely?

There's a great timeline of general events on the current WELL website but all it states is
One year after the opening of The WELL, the Grateful Dead conference is started. The already-extant community of Deadheads finds a virtual home on the WELL and gives the WELL a financial and cultural boost.
Given John Perry Barlow (the Grateful Dead lyricist, and founder of the EFF) founded the EFF on the WELL in July 1990, as well as the history of audio and recording technology developments that occurred in and through the Grateful Dead scene, I'm guessing there's a story to be told about the GD "conference" (the WELL equivalent of sub-reddits as far as I gather). And given the body of scholarly work on the Grateful Dead, I'm hoping that somebody has documented this little chapter as well?

Hopefully this is the correct subreddit for this. Story: My grandparents found this sword in the attic of the house they moved into quite a few years ago. Apparently the last person to own the house was a U.S. Marine who fought in WWII. The sword is actually broken in half, and the sheath (not sure if it's called that for swords) is pretty tattered. I doubt it's worth anything but I am interested in the symbols. Picture 1.....Zoomed in

I recently listened to a "Request Performance" radio program from 1945 where Orson Welles takes a trip to the moon. A lot of what he describes in the fictional performance is accurate to what we know happens in space travel. I'm wondering if it was just guesswork, or if he was working off what space innovations had already happened by then.

Was it comparable to basic training for soldiers today, or was it something entirely different?

I have been searching for awhile and have not found any satisfactory answer as to the origin of the term white lightning.
What I do know;
What I don't know and would like to;
When was the name first used? I realize this is hard to pinpoint because of the secretive nature of alcohol at the time, but I'd like to know at least in what year it entered known usage.
Where does the name originate from? I'm looking for at least state or region (assuming it did originate in the united states). If it can be more precise like city or town that would be great but I realize that's asking a lot.
What is the meaning of the name? Is it a reference to the qualities of the liquid, simply a "code name" for talking about it in public, or some moonshiner's brand name?
