Inspired by the movie 'A Field in England'. If someone in the past accidentally ate a magic mushroom, did they put the experience down to contact with God or another spiritual being? Is there documentation of this?

You occasionally hear statements about how such a culture could have "allowed" the rise of Nazism in 1930s Germany. Did they necessarily allow it? There may have been rabid Nazis amongst the average working class Germans, but what did speaking or acting out against Nazism get you, after Hitler consolodated power? I believe there were sixteen different assassination attempts on Hitler during his lifetime? Is it fair to fault the 1930s German population for allowing the rise of Hitler, or are they more appropriately considered captives of it.

Or was that vision of the world more geographically constrained?

I'm referring to Wilhelm II, Nicholas II, and George V, who ruled the empires of Germany, Russia, and Britain, respectively.

I recently got into historical reenactment, started historical fencing, and am now putting together my outfit. My problem is that I can't seem to find any manuals for medieval armor online. Can you tell me where to find realiable resources on german armor between 1350 and 1400? All I know so far is that I definitely won't be wearing full plate armor, but instead something like a brigantine.

Because I've been searching for an hour now online and I can't find ANYTHING.

"The Americans" is a TV show about KGB spies in the US. Whenever there is a scene at the Soviet embassy, the actors start talking Russian. Now what strikes me as odd is, that they never address each other with only their first name (Hello, Arkady Ivanovich Zotov) or only their last name (Hello, Mr. Arkady Ivanovich Zotov). Instead they address each other with their first and middle name, even when talking to a superior. (Hello, Arkady Ivanovich Zotov)

Is there a historical reason for that at all, or is it just something the creators of the show chose to implement?

My Grandfather was a Sea Bee in WWII and he followed behind the European Invasion (I think following Eisenhower?) to dismantle abandoned equipment so it could be shipped back to the US. I really regret not talking to him more about WWII but he did have a journal he kept during the war. I haven't read it and I heard (from family) it's rather boring but I've heard that journals and whatnot are still really valuable to historians.

Would this be of interest to anyone? Are there any historians who are particularly interested in this topic?
