Does anyone know how to make a german king stop investing bishops?

There is this young German king running around investing bishops and committing simony. Clearly, I am the only one with authority to invest bishops with their office. How do I make him and others see that lay figures investing bishops is simony?

Would it be justifiable to defect to the enemy and invade your hometown if you knew that in the end it would be for your people's greater glory?

There have occurred some scandalous events in my dear home city of Athens involving statue defacement, and the vile degenerates who claim to speak for the demos have convinced all that it is I who is the perpetrator that shall be tried for it. Yet, here I am, their most virtuous citizen, having lead a whole expedition to conquer land and wealth in Sicily for their honor! Rather than subject myself to their pathetic litigation, I have had no choice but to give myself over to the Spartans who, though relentlessly uncouth and hostile (except for that voluptuous Timaia, mmmmhmmm), have promised my protection if I agree to lead them in laying a devastating siege to my dear home and turn all their allies against them. Now, I love Athens more than anyone of those repugnant sophists they call politicians, but do they not have it coming to them for betraying a most elegant, most noble, and most loyal son such as I? And in the end can I not simply go back and say that in reality I was merely spying on the Spartans in order to help Athens conquer them in the end? Especially if I make a pit stop in Persia to win the favor of the satrap? When I prove to them of the Spartan plans for battle and that the satrap is waiting with baited breath to give us stockpiles of his wealth and arms, they will surely know that I am telling the truth and no doubt give me the heroes welcome we all know I deserve.

Who was your favorite French King and why is it Louis XVI?

Just curious to pick you brains on our King! Swell chap, isn't he? By the way, do you or anyone you know currently hold correspondences with anyone in the Austrian nobility? What about guns, who knows some good places to hide weapons in Paris? Just curious! Me and my friends are collaborating on a big book listing Parisians by name and how much they love good ol' Louis! Thanks :)

I'm trying to control south of the Yangtze River. My enemy, Liu Biao, Governor of Jingzhou, died and his successor surrendered to me. I think I should use this momentum to push on and smash my other enemies, Liu Bei and Sun Quan, at the Red Cliffs, but my military advisers keep saying no. Advice?

My family came to America in the 1950's. Was legally coming to America during that time significantly different than it is now?

I am just reading articles and am still not sure how I feel about the massive illegal immigration discussion. My family came here legally in the 50's. How was it different during that time? Was it easier or harder? Did it cost the same or less?

I Hear Cleopatra is Much Maligned These Days. In Heaven's Name, Why Is That?

It has come to my attention that Ptolemy's daughter Cleopatra, whom I installed as queen of the Egyptians is currently the object of some divisive quarrel of a ridiculous nature. When I met her she was a most agreeable young woman, not at all like her brother, who treacherously murdered my very good friend Gnaeus Pompey, whose affection I had hoped to restore. A wittier or more learned woman never lived, and I have yet to see a finer bosom or pair of legs...ahem...Yet now I am told that she was called an enemy of the state and had designs on the Capitoline itself! Surely this must be slander, for who could believe that a woman so fitting of the queenship, who held herself in my villa across the Tiber for several years and got along splendidly with the people of Rome could possibly have had such designs? Why, I've had quite a few women in my time, and the things she could do with her...anyway, that's not important right now. Could the years following my regrettable...absence have warped the world so much, that a woman who was manifestly a friend to the Roman people and an Atalanta in the sack could be branded by such a cruel name?

I've heard it said that Gladiators in ancient Rome would rarely die in the games. How was this possible?

Now "rarely" here might be being used a little loosely, but I think before they take the time to educate themselves, most people assume that most gladiator fights were fought to the death. Apparently this was not the case. Why was death relatively uncommon in gladiator fights, and how was this achieved ?

They all seemed to be fighting with weapons capable of killing. Did they purposefully go easy on each other? Seems unlikely due to the incentive to win. Did they only aim for areas where blows would be non fatal? Again, seems like this would rely on an honor system that would deteriorate fast. What measures were taken to ensure the probable survival of the fighters, while still providing a good show?

Seeing all the criminals I impaled, a visiting monk praised the practice; his companion condemned the barbarism. Shall I reward the 1st for his flattery and impale the 2nd for insulting me, or impale the 1st for being a sycophant and reward the 2nd for his honesty?
