So I'm curious and wikipedia has been of some help but has only sparked a thirst for more knowledge. These questions specifically pertain to the Kingdom of Jerusalem under Crusader rule as opposed to a titular Kingdom of Jersualem on Cyprus.

1. From what I've read it seems that up until the 1800s Jerusalem as a city was really just the Old City with its walls (built by Sulemein the Magnificent I believe?). Is this true?

2. What locations were key places of the Kingdom's government? I've read that the Tower of David served as the royal palace but then I also read that the Mosque was converted to a palace at some point. What were the royal palaces or government buildings?

3. Jaffa is mentioned as one of the primary ports during this time but Acre is also mentioned. Which one would've been the greater of the two?

4. I've read that the Kings of Jerusalem had coronations in Tyre but was this always the case or only near the end of their rule in the region?

5. Is there a particular reason that Jerusalem remained, from what I've read, a small backwater city up until the mid to late 1800s?

As absurd as it sounds, I've always thought ships of the line to be 'one battle wonders' because of wooden hull, close range and massive volleys. Probably even a single lucky cannonball could damage the hull in a way that the structure would become permanently weakened and offer less, if any, protection in future engagements.

My grandfather was a peasant who lived in Norther Transylvania. During WWII, that part of Romania was given to Hungary as part of the Ribbentrop Molotov Pact, so even though he was ethnic Romanian, he fought in the Hungarian army. Not sure how that worked, but that's what I was told. Anyway, the part that really intrigues me is that he ended up being a POW in Germany for about 6 months.

The topic was taboo in his house and so he gave little information about what happened.

I know in the end of WWII, Hungary declared war on Germany, but why did Hungary have troops in Germany? And isn't 6 months a bit too long, because Germany and Hungary weren't at war for such a long time.

I am trying to figure out how plausible it is that he was a POW in Germany for 6 months, and how could he have ended in such a situation.

Are there any relatively recent, last 100 years, examples of a mass migration on a country that parallel the current Syrian migration?

There are houses like York, Tudor, Stuart or Windsor? How does the change from York to Tudor or from Stuart to Windsor happen when they are all related? What is a house and when does a new one begin? Henry VII was related to Richard III but the reign of a new house started. Why? I would understand if they were not related at all but not if the new king is just the next in order of succession.

I do programming for a public library and we like to peg author talks to relevant anniversaries. While I'm pretty well versed in areas like American politics, I often miss major anniversaries in other areas ... particularly world history and military history.

Why has China, despite being part of insanely bloody conflicts like the Mongolian Conquests, Taiping Rebellion, and Japanese occupation during WWII, had consistently such a high population. I realize that their size and age must be taken into consideration, but still?

Were there popular notions or generally accepted truths that were discarded? How did the revelation change the evaluation of what happened during the conflict?

I was watching a tv show and they mentioned this. I was super surprised to hear this, as meat usually doesn't come in abundance, and they were talking about their meat eating habits as a tradition and culture, how did they become so wealthy in this way?
