Was Handel's Serse written with the influence of the Book of Esther? Why else would Handel, or Bononcini, who wrote Xerse, depict Xerses as a protagonist?

During her reign, how much authority did she have compared to the rest of the government? Was she a figurehead like Elizabeth II, or did she take a larger role in making laws and decisions? How was Victorian Britain and the Empire governed?

Unfortunately I can't remember the exact source where I read this information. I was just curious if there were in fact said records.

Its a very divisive topic now, but I'm curious if this is relatively new. Like, did people protest public hangings for moral reasons? Was it something people debated and had an opinion about?

I was thinking that maybe people were just more exposed to death in general, so the idea of dying for your crimes wasn't so extreme.

Afer the Battle of Tours, Charles Martel was nicknamed "the Hammer". In modern-day French, "marteau" means hammer, so I was wondering what came first? Was Charles called the Hammer because of his smashing victory AND because his last name sounded like the word "marteau", or did the word originate from his last name?

Is it safe to say that the Black Death pandemic is what sparked the European Renaissance? I read that it killed a huge portion of the population in Florence Italy which is the origin of the Renaissance. Was the Black Death the catalyst?

Austria-Hungary got split up in different countries after world war one, why didn't the allies cut up Germany into different countries like how it was pre-Bismarck. I get that there is less ethnic divesrity between, lets say, Bavarians and Saxons than there is between Austrians and Bosnians, but still, most of the german cultures had long histories of independence. Why didn't Germany got cut up like Austria-Hungary?

One thing I've noticed is that the big bands of the late 60s and 1970s such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath etc did not tour in Latin America throughout the height of their popularity.

Were there no fanbases in South and Central America or was it a matter of financial gain? Also, who were some of the earliest bands to tour in the region?

I know it failed to ratify in 1979 and again in 1982. What killed the amendment and was there any historical precedent for rescinding ratification as a few states did?
