I hear things like "scared like the French" or "surrender like France". I've always thought France has been one of those countries that go to war at the drop of a hat. If it's WWII they are talking about, I think it's a little unfair. My understanding is that after WWI France was decimated and had no real chance joing Great Britain against Germany to begin with. So it's now wonder they were out of the war so soon.

Hi. I was wondering why the ancient world lacked other accounts of history. For instance, we only know about Persians from Greeks who hated their guts. Then we only know about Parhians from Romans and about Sassanids from Byzantines. I find this very strange.

World War III is a common futuristic event in novels, film and all forms of media today. But in between World War I and World War II, were there any pieces of fiction written about a potential Second Great War in the same style that World War III is written about today?

It's become somewhat of a stereotype that, when we hear "Ancient Greece", we imagine endless idyll, peace, tranquility, warmth, culture, theater and togas with sandals.

...as opposed to a bear or other predator? Was there a specific defining characteristic of the wolf that made it necessary? Some behavior of wolves that Romulus and Remus took with them, that was required for their leadership? Pack mentality? Predatory? Etc?

A common trope of the middle ages (and all the way to 1800's) is women with very open necklines and long skirts. Another trope is that it was very scandalous for a woman to show anything above her ankle.

How was it okay for her to show cleavage but not above the ankle? Or is one of those tropes just bad Hollywood?

George Washington's attack on the French in 1754 is what most historians nowadays consider to be the start of the French and Indian War. Was this view held during the late 1700's? Did, for example, the fact that he started the Seven Years War come up when picking him as the general of the American forces? Did Britain try a smear campaign against him using this fact? Or was Washington not yet accepted as the cause of The French and Indian War?

From what I understand, most spices came from outside of Europe. So, before the creation of the spice trade, what was traditional European food like? How was it flavored?
