Since both rely on scaring the infantry into breaking ranks when charging, which did people actually find scarier when receiving a head-on charge?

Did anyone within these three hundred years or so record their thoughts on receiving a cavalry charge vs receiving a chariot charge?

Surely there have been cultures fascinated with the more "dark" elements of humanity. Why is it that it was not until the 1950's and on that we started to see heavier genres of music come about?

Alternatively, why is there no "ancient heavy-metal" music, or anything similar, despite there being very dark literature (The Brothers Grimm, Dante's Inferno, to name a few) in the history of art?

Is there many sources on what life was like for Female soldiers? Were they condensed into their own units or mixed? was they're effectiveness different from the rest of Soviet Forces? What was their status after the war?

Why did China back U.S after the sino-soviet split even though china's ideology was closer to soviets than the U.S?

I mean:

What kind of soap (for what uses -- washing hands?)?

Who got the soap (was it sold as a general commodity -- in corner stores? What were the quantities?)?

Did the consumer know that his soap was made from humans?

How effective was this soap?

I'm aware of the denazification period following the war, but just because people complied with the new laws doesn't mean their attitude changed. I find it hard to imagine that after decades of anti-semitism culminating in Hilter's mass deportations of Jews, people would be like "Oh hey, our Jewish neighbours are back. Cool." For example, in post-war Poland around 400 Holocaust survivors were killed and anti-semitism was pretty rampant, to the point where most Jews decided "Fuck this, we're emigrating". While denazification probably curbed this in Germany, I still can't imagine the public sentiment shifting from mistrust/hatred to empathy/acceptance overnight.

(Obviously a degree of anti-semitism still exists in pretty much every country including Germany, so I'm not saying it disappeared completely after WWII, just trying to gauge the general consensus of the time.)

Also if anyone wants to chime in with attitudes towards non-Jewish Holocaust survivors in post-war Germany, I'd be keen to learn about that as well.

I was talking to a friend recently and we got on the topic of atomic bombs and I brought up the bombing of Japan and how it minimized casualties in the long run, but he and my other friend there both told me that was just propaganda by the US and that a ground invasion would not have been as detrimental as people have been led to believe...they continued by saying that the US would have nuked Japan either way (whether it would reduce casualties or not) in order to showcase their power...can anyone shed light on this?

I'm currently studying mid-19th century America, and the republicans were, at that point, radical, while the democrats were conservative, as far as I understand it. Now today, democrats are liberal and republicans are conservative. Exactly when did this swap happen, if it can be pinpointed, and if it can't, at what general time did the two sides change?

I was wondering about how birth was handled back before we had any medical technology. In particular what did cavemen do with the umbilical cord. Did they cut it off? Did it fall of naturally? Did they have belly buttons?

I apologize for my incredibly crass understanding of the subject, but I am wondering if there is any documentation that would show how alcohol was though of, if it was unhealthy for the body, whether that was something worth considering, if a social stigma developed etc....
