Are there any sources that describe the German Empire's war goals towards France and Great Britain during World War I? I've seen many different ideas about it just being colonial concessions, the annexation of the Belgium, small French concessions, huge land grab against the French, or even a French puppet government.

Was there a person like a mortician whose task was to dispose of dead people who would not have funerals? How did they dispose of the bodies?

Hello everyone I am currently an undergrad Working on a research project for my 496 class. I am looking into the bombing of Dresden, specifically the actual military targets they were there and whether that warranted an attack on the city that late into the war. I have been going through everything from The New York Times articles during and after the bombing to many books about the bombing. I am trying to find some more good primary sources. I was going to get some documents from the United states air force historical archives but through an error on my part they wont be able to get me the documents I need in time. My question was if anyone had or new some good places to find either U.S.A.F or RAF maps or directives from the time to see what their targets were or anything else like first hand accounts from someone involved in the raids. Any help or point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

We can buy “fair trade” coffee or other products that gives the productor a bigger share of the profits. Was there any equivalent just before the civil war. This could mean cotton produced with only free labor etc.

I'm looking to learn more about this.

More specifically, I am interested in learning about how the early humans in Africa developed, and eventually spread to the East, and later to the West. The book recommendations I've received so far tend to have strong regional focuses, but I'm interested in sort of a general overview first. Let me know if I need to clarify anything. Thank you!

My final for my History class (Technology and Civilization to 1750) is right around the corner and I need a little more insight. First I'm not sure what point to argue; I see both sides. (but for essays thats a big no-no) So I just want to hear some more opinions.

This is what I have thought about so far:

1st Argument: Due to extraordinary factors

• Watt's engines were unique compared to other engines of this time because he used heat in a 'mysterious' way (brought up a new perspective on heat)

• Watt had previous learned knowledge about how heat works (He became good friends with his former college professor, Joseph Black, who developed the concept of latent heat and heat capacity)

• the 1769 patent brought success because it allowed Watt to claim many things as infringements

Thats about all I can come up with right now and those three points are stretching it..

2nd Argument: Due to everyday factors

• Many people, not just Watt, were working on improving the steam engine (John Smeaton, Long Benton steam engine)
• Watt used his patent to limit others knowledge and development
• Society is what made the dissemination of the steam engine due to everyday factors since (hm not sure how to word this right/if this even will make sense) society is an everyday thing, regardless of time period; it is normal and necessary to spread ideas and news through society. Watt explained his invention in terms of horsepower so people had a true understanding of it since the term horsepower was an everyday term.
• Many other engines were made and in use *Many other people working on improving engines with heat- just as Watt
• Patent wars were common in this day and age. This fact that people were arguing with Watt's patent proves that Watt's invention was not unique.

Any advice or more ideas? Which argument, in your opinion, would make a great essay?

By this I mean, are there any Greek texts which speak about the potential end of the Greek society? In the last days of the Roman Empire, were people aware it was ending, and did they worry about what depravities would come next? Did these societies believe that they would go on forever?

I've wondered, since Franco and Hitler were both dictators and they looked like they were friends, why didn't Franco use his armies to help Hitler?

When I read about the 2nd Punic War, I learn that the Barcas took advantage of the great wealth of Spain to pay off Rome and become very powerful.

When I read about the late Republic, I learn that Pompey conquered the spectacular wealth of the eastern provinces. And Caesar conquered the great wealth of Gaul. And Augustus acquired the tremendous riches of Egypt. The other day I even read about the great wealth of the island of Crete.

Doesn't the word wealthy lose its meaning when you use it to describe every square inch of everything? Isn't it a relative thing? Alabama is very rich compared to most of the world, but no scholar calls Alabama wealthy because its relatively poor compared to the rest of the country. Why does Rome get different treatment?

I’ve heard the theory that the government was nervous about organized antiwar and civil rights groups and spread LSD and hippy culture to try to divert and destabilize them into less political bodies. Is there any credence to this or is it a conspiracy theory?
