Did Eva Braun 100% willingly commit suicide with A. Hitler?

Is there written or apocryphal evidence that she was not at least in part coerced into killing herself? I've read a translation of his dictated will & testament that said something like 'my wife and I choose death over disgrace' or something. Would Eva Braun have been arrested or prosecuted by the Allies had she survived? Was she as broken, psychologically, as AH was? I find her story fascinating.

When did office workers make exercise and food a focus of their free time?

Office workers spend much of their free time jogging, going to the gym, doing yoga, going to whole foods, and obsessing about the food they eat in ways that blue collar worker don't.

When did all of this happen? It seems like young single urban office workers don't fit in with any community and so they're obsessed with these things as a substitute.

Theoretically, was the Carolingian Empire actually in a good position to re-unite Europe permenantly after the collapse of the Western Roman Empire?

Ignoring the obvious factors that led to the downfall of the empire, such as the Treaty of Verdun and the fairly weak rule of Louis the Pious, would it have actually been theoretically possible for the Carolingians to re-establish a united Europe? Or was the practical application of such a concept completely lost once the Western Roman Empire collapsed?

When and how did we develop reliable airplane paint?

I've been playing quite a lot of WW2 airplane simulation games and the one thing I invariably notice on nearly every plane is how there are bits of paint missing all over the thing.

Now, I figured it's probably game developers going for a more dramatic look, but when checking out actual photographs of WW2 aircraft during WW2, it seems that they also had bits of paint missing and quite a lot of wear to them.

Here are some examples:

Most of the time the paint seems to be missing on leading edges, on curved surfaces, between panels, and on areas, which the personnel step on.

Looking briefly into the history of paint, it seems that it was around WW2 that we started using all-chemical paints instead of basing them around things like linseed oil.

Does anyone have any insight into the history of chemistry around that time? How did paints evolve to become more reliable on metal surfaces?

Why communism is associated with totalitarianism and is communism possible with democracy?

As I understand, totalitarianism is a form of government, and communism is a form of societal and economic system. Also, communism was never implemented in real world, not even close.

But I wonder if communism is able to work with democracy and their relationships, and if such combinations was tried in history and if yes what were the results.

I understand that this is not exactly askhistorians question, but I think that scholars who studied history of communism are most qualified to answer this. Thank you.

What happened with prisoners in the German Democratic Republic after reunification?

While I understand that political prisoners were released and reimbursed what happened with the ordinary criminals? Did the sentences get adapted to the laws of the Federal Republic or did the original sentences remain? Were there new trials to prevent people still being locked up for political reasons?

Also as a follow up question: how was the prison infrastructure and staff continued? Were the wardens that were active in the GDR replaced by Westgermans, reeducated or did they just keep on working as before and just switched uniforms?

Are we absolutely sure Australian Aboriginals were always hunter-gatherers?

Given that as we learn more about various culture we once considered primitive and lacking agriculture, the more we find that they either practised agriculture in a way we simply misunderstood (Amazonian tribes for example) or consisted of populations that once practised agriculture but abandoned it (the Zomia people, are historians still convinced that Australian Aboriginals have never practised agriculture? Are there any academics looking into the possibility?

How did political leaders in 1930's Europe sell Fascism so that it appealed to people?

I stumbled across a wiki article about Oswald Mosley and the Battle of Cable Street (In the UK 1936) and it got me wondering about what sorts of ideas political fascists used to sell the idea of Fascism that got average people to favor it.

To this day it's still common practice for political movements to preach promises and ideals of one sort that aren't really in line with the real nature of the movement's politics.

When I went researching what exactly fascism is (because it occured to me that I really had no idea what it actually was aside from 'Italy and Nazi Germany during WWII), every description I found of it still appeared rather unappealing. No doubt I'm not in the right position to understand the context that could make some of those ideals favorable, but I wondered if perhaps there was also the case of it being misrepresented to the people at the time. Arguments and offers made by politicians that actually would sound appealing, and get so many people on board.

How likely is it that Quetzalcoatl is a retcon of Christian influences in Mesoamerica?

The Wikipedia article (I know, I know: terrible source) on Quetzalcoatl mentions that his influence extends beyond the Nahuatl people into Mayan territory and even other mesoamerican cultures, where he is known by different names. I see certain similarities between his representation there and early treatments of Jesus Christ as Christianity spread outward from the Mediterranean, and I'm wondering if there hasn't been a confusion of sources when talking about the two figures historically.

As a broader question: how reliable are discussions of Mesoamerican religion and faith? Have they all been undeniably diluted by European conquest?
