I was thinking about it before, iraq, vietnam, both unsuccessful examples of america trying to dismantle an insurgency, when america pulls out of Afghanistan, the taliban will re-take over. Are there any examples of a government successfully dismantling an insurgency?

According to this site the Wehrmacht had 18 million people in service from 1939-1945. When the war was over, who collected their helmets, rifles, boots, uniforms, and what about all the equipment that was in storages/factories?
Did the Americans or Soviets recycle any of the equipment? Did they reuse it, sell it to other nations/groups, or destroy it?

It seems bizarre to me to have a policy called "White Australia" (or was it not officially called that?), and then enforce it in such a coy, euphemistic way.
If they didn't want non-white immigrants, why didn't they just ban non-white immigrants?
Is it because Australia was part of the British Empire at the time, and didn't have full freedom of action?

I was reading about the Varangian Guard and there was mention of an influx of Anglo-Saxons joining after the Norman Invasion. Specifically, it stated that in 1088 around 5000 Anglo-Saxons emigrated to the Byzantine Empire in 235 ships. Was this just one example of an organized departure from England?
