How were western European government & bureaucracy in the centuries following the collapse of the western roman empire more efficient and/or suited to the times than roman government? What about any inferiorities?

I guess I'm curious why it has become standard to serve a caffeinated beverage after the last meal of the day (and ostensibly close to bedtime).

I'm currently reading "Empire of Liberty" by Gordon Wood. In the Compromise of 1790 he says that basically the location of the nation's capital was moved in exchange of debts being turned over to the federal government. My question is, how important was it to move the capital at that time? Was it a psychology victory for the south or was there more to it then that?

A little off-topic, but I just finished a game that is called The Wolf Among Us. It is based off of a comic book series called Fables, which is about all of the fables (Snow White, Big Bad Wolf, Beauty and the Beast, Muffin Man, and MANY others) living in a somewhat modern times New York City. Thats the jist of it. Anyways, it got me really into fables. Im not talking about Aesop's fables, but about the traditional childhood stories. Where did these stories come from and what are the original works?
I appreciate any help or information on the topic!

Say if I was a man in India and I heard there were lots of opportunities in China or Europe would it be considered normal for me to grab all my things and start new somewhere else? Did nations have an immigration process for tax purposes?
*I'm sorry for the typo in the title. If anyone can fix it to "How often did people change countries...."

Who exactly were the Turcopoles? The information I found online and in books seemed conflicting. I know they were christian sons of Turk fathers, but most sources list them as a mercenary force within the Templars or men who weren't really templars but a separate organization that was hired by them and ran by the Turcopolier.
How did the other religious military orders then develop the same rank of Turcoplier?
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

The former colonies, as I understand, were very much against a strong, centralized American government. The Holy Roman Empire was still around at the time of the revolution, and it seems to me that that sort of government would have appealed to the founders. Was it ever suggested that the new American nation have a government similar to the HRE?

and also how DID they get noticed? Did they have "managers" or people who shared their works across the world?

When Mexico became independent the plan was for the country to become a commonwealth with Spain, the king serving simultaneously as the Emperor of Mexico. This did not work out and Augustin Iturbide became emperor instead. In Brazil it was the son of Portugal's king that proclaimed himself Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil. Why did these countries opt for emperors rather than kings? Was their any precedent to this? Or was it simply a matter of outdoing the former colonial power?

I was looking up ticket prices on the Titanic, and the price difference between First Class (parlor suite) £870/$4,350 ($83,200 today), and First Class (berth) £30/$150 ($2975 today) is shocking. What was the difference between the two? $83,000 strikes me as an absurd price for a trip, especially given that there was another luxury accommodation available for about 4% of the cost.

I know the plot of the movie is fiction, but I wondered if that specific part of the story line has a precedent in history. For those who may not know to what I'm referring, TC'S character was a captain in the American wars against the natives. He was then basically rented off to Japan to help them fight the Samurai.

From what I understand, West Berlin was not even part of West Germany and was divided into areas of U.S., French, and British control. Furthermore, West Germany, with its capital in Bonn, was much more prosperous. What reasons/logic led to making Berlin the capital after reunification?

Hello! I do artwork based on "Baudolino" Umberto Eco. I need many info about costume of presented аgе (1100 - 1200 years). Franse, Italia, Constantinople. Costumes of peasants, nobles, townspeople, merchants, warriors (knights, infantry, bow and crossbowmens, etc).
I need books or magazines with many images. For now i find Osprey little books and Man-at-Arms magazine. They are not bad, but prefer some more serios historical books about costume with deep reserch.
Sorry for my english and thank you.

I have recently been looking into the history of Poland more and had a few questions on this commonwealth.
1)What made them join together, like was it more of an annexation by one country or a mutually beneficial agreement by both sides.
2)Did either country hold more power in government.
3)How big of a power in Europe did it become during its height.
